Is this normal? Sight going when going in to a darker room

Ok so this probably sounds really stupid but recently I've noticed if I'm sat down stairs in the evening in normal lighting and then go upstairs to check on the DC (mainly dark rooms but obviously slightly lighter in the summer) as soon as I concentrate my vision on one of them my peripheral vision starts to go black, this then carries on until my sight is completely blacked out. It then comes back after literally just a second or two. Is this normal? It carries on doing this for a few minutes and then eventually my sight goes back to normal again.

It doesn’t sound normal to me. Have you seen an optician? I would go asap, better safe than sorry if something funny might be going on

Night blindness?

PimpMyFridge · 08/06/2023 19:44

Blimey, that sounds odd. I'd be seeing an optician I think.

I had this a few months back so booked in to see the optician. I paid for the extra eye health check and when i sat down with the optician i mentioned this to him, he said it was completely normal, it had a name but i can't remember what it was but he said it was nothing to worry about.

Sometimes can be a sign of cataracts.

@popgoesperfection ah that's good to know thank you!

I had a feeling it might be to do with blood pressure as I have very low blood pressure and when I stand up I often get lots of black spots in my eyes so I thought it might just be something to do with that.

If your still unsure and experiencing it in a few days you might be better getting it checked just to be 100% sure. I still have it sometimes now, like blackness starts around the edge then gets smaller until everything is black then almost immediately pops back to normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would definitely get checked out at an opticians. Lots of conditions have similar symptoms and they would need to thoroughly check your eye before offering an opinion as to the chase.
