To shorten notice

Gave notice a week ago. Finish up three weeks today however today I came in and met my replacement. If I stay I will be working seven days a week for three weeks. Started new job already. Obviously if I go I won’t get paid for the time. Money would be a nice to have rather than essential.

Only you can answer that.
Personally for me when I hand my notice in I ‘check out’ in my head (but don’t show it in my work) so I’d welcome the chance to leave earlier if my boss/contract allowed me to and I didn’t need the cash. I also find it helpful to have a bit of time off between jobs so I can decompress from one and then start the other fresh. But it’s very much personal preference, others might want to push through and bank the extra cash even if not 100% essential (especially in current climate etc).

Up to you.. Depends what else you have lined up and just how "nice to have" that extra money would be.

How are
You going to stay and work seven days a week and work your new job?

Badbudgeter · 08/06/2023 17:00

I’m working 7 days as I work 3 at new job, two at job I’m leaving and two at a separate job. I am knackered to be honest, it all seemed more doable in my head. New person is having annual leave last week of my contract so they have declined to shorten notice. C’est la vie.

Surely it is up to your employer not you

MuggleMe · 08/06/2023 19:00

Could you take leave at your other old job to make it more manageable? Even unpaid?

Badbudgeter · 08/06/2023 19:22

I’m going to keep the other job and work 5 days a week once notice is done. It’s a bit tricky time off wise as I have just over 3 weeks of annual leave booked over the holidays already. It’ll be fine, coffee is my friend.

All the same, congratulations on the new job. Get some treats in for 3 weeks' time - you'll have earned them!
