Travel cot for every night use?

Hi everyone

Baby 2 weeks old and sleeps well in her Moses basket inside her big cot.

Problem is that every night my DH or I are carrying the Moses basket to our bedroom from the lounge.

We have no room for a next to me crib so her cot is at the foot of our bed against the wall.

I wake up in the night to check she's okay, first time mum worries and all of that!

My aunt bought us this as we have a holiday booked and it folds up/has a travel case but it fits perfectly down my side of the bed and I'm wondering whether it will be safe to use as a cot for her for now so I can just lean over and look at her in the night.

I can't find anything to say that she's not safe to sleep in it for prolonged amount of time but I just wanted some opinions.

Many thanks 😊

They put them in a box at that age in Scandinavia, so I’m sure it’s fine!

Babies just need to be safe, warm and near you.

Well mine is 13 months and sleeps every night in her travel cot because she absolutely loves it. I'll just keep her in that until she out grows it.

If you Google ‘can babies sleep in a travel cot every night?’ Loads of info comes up.
I know when mine were small the advice was not to, I wondered if that has changed, it seems it hasn’t and the advice is travel cots are not suitable to be used every night. Maybe contact the manufacturer of your particular one for advice?

It appears to be sold as a regular cot, so I can't see that it wouldn't be suitable for everyday use.

We used a travel cot every night for dd once she grew out of the Moses basket. We bought a mattress to go in it to make it comfortable. Had no problems and she was in it about a year!

dancinginthesky · 06/06/2023 23:31

As long as the product doesn't state it's not suitable for long term use it's absolutely fine - if you're unsure just call the manufacturer

Yes it is absolutely fine

As someone said earlier Scandis let their new borns sleep in a box

But if you’ve got a Moses basket anyway, why don’t you just put that on a stand next to your bed?

Carrusa · 06/06/2023 23:36

Oh that's adorable! Sometimes travel cot mattresses are either a bit too soft, so you can feel the hard board underneath, or a bit too firm almost like a futon. If it feels fine, similar to the moses basket mattress, then it should be fine.

We just carried the moses basket up at that age, but we had a stand for it in the bedroom.

We used a nuna travel cot from.when my little boy outgrew the moses basket at around 5 mo this until he moved to his own room sharing with his sibling at a year. The cot/cot bed was too large to go beside our bed so the travel cot was ideal. It was advertised as suitable for use every day as well as for travel. It was much comfort looking than the usual folding cardboard mattress though.

We have 3 under 3 and they were all in cots as they didn't like moses baskets and all absaloutely fine

What does the product say about sleeping? Our pram bassinet was suitable for overnight sleeping so we used it a few times when we stayed in hotels. It didn't actually advise against doing this longer term.

It doesn't fit sadly, this travel cot is much more narrow.

Most babies outgrow Moses baskets by 4months ish. So if this is smaller than a Moses basket it won’t be used overnight for very long anyway
