I'm the biggest I've ever been and feel like a big fat blob shoving food in my big fat face

I eat shit, don't exercise and use food as a crutch when I'm stressed which is everyday with 2 kids under 4

I just can't kick myself up the arse and do anything about it!

I'm so sick of looking in the mirror and seeing what I see now, enough has to be enough, I can't get any bigger than this

Please tell me how you motivate yourself to lose weight when it feels like a punishment?!

Certain furniture let me know I was tad too heavy. Incredible how quickly the denial disappeared after that....

StephanieSuperpowers · 11/06/2023 17:19

For me, I realised that my insecurity and inability to feel like I was wearing the right thing to occasions was ruining days that were supposed to be happy. I don't want that anymore.

Oscarpapa · 11/06/2023 17:24

@PitifulPrincess, I’ve lost a few pounds but need to lose many many more stones. My motivation is my kids and long term health. If you’d like to buddy up, so we can support each other.

bryceQ · 11/06/2023 17:24

I put on weight with my son after a very hard pregnancy. I was motivated to lose it as I want to be as healthy as possible for him. He has additional needs and will always need me I suspect. I can't bear the thought of anything happening to me so I try to live as healthily as possible.

Beaverbridge · 11/06/2023 17:32

Saw myself in a video. Omg shocked at myself. Started last Thursday, been watching since then. Next weigh in Thursday. Fingers crossed!.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 17:34

Pre diabetes, high cholesterol and mild neuropathy in one leg

MissCalamity · 11/06/2023 17:43

Fed up of my clothes feeling too tight and hated photos of myself. You wouldn't know I'd been anywhere with my kids as there's never even evidence.
I had a knee injury last year and it has now healed (I think!) Losing weight would help not potentially injuring myself as I'm not carrying as much weight..

Weighed in at Slimming World after Easter at 16 stone 13.5 lbs. I have lost 1 stone and 2 lbs, still another 3 stone to go, and I've already felt a difference in clothes and NSV like the bath water can actually drain past me now instead of getting stuck behind my fat arse 😲🤣🤣

Go for it, I wish I'd done this earlier..!

northernstars · 11/06/2023 23:17

@MissCalamity you inspired me to send off an enquiry to a local Slimming World group!

AmeliaWarnerBros · 11/06/2023 23:58

Hating being so hot in the summer is making me work towards my goal weight.

mikado1 · 12/06/2023 00:03

Someone sent me a photo of myself in early February. I was horrified and got on the scales for the first time in months. Signed up to a no sugar, no flour programme that deals with the emotional crutch part of it all as well. Two stone gone since and the vanity that was the kick-start has resulted in added sanity! And much improved sleep and skin! So many of us are simply addicted to crap food.

Babsexxx · 12/06/2023 06:37

Jumping on the scales and seeing my weight was the same as I was full term with DD shot me up the ass! A few tears I joined the gym that week got a Fitbit downloaded mfp! I was horrified biggest I’ve ever been! And it was just after lockdown.

Maray1967 · 12/06/2023 06:53

Need to lose 3 stone and now know that I have arthritis in my foot - Dr told me straightaway I need to shift some weight. Also have 2 weddings next year and I am totally fed up of feeling and looking like this.

I lost 2 stone with Slimming World a few years back and thought I could stay at that weight on my own - err, no, what a joke. It crept back on and more piled on as well. As soon as Dr told me that I needed to lose weight I signed back up with Slimming World and I start on Saturday.

I clearly need the accountability that I got from SW. DH more overweight than I am but won’t do anything about it, but both DC very supportive- they are both fit and slim, as I was at their age and until post menopause in 40s whereas DH has been at least s bit overweight since student days.

I send best wishes to everyone- we need to do this for our health.

OnsenBurner · 12/06/2023 06:54

I made a comment to my husband that shagging me was prob alt pie trying to stab a balloon and all of a sudden - I had the ability. I actually make myself feel revolting and it was only said as a joke.

I’ve lost 2 stone now on keto.

Maray1967 · 12/06/2023 06:55

PS yes, also being hot and sweaty in the hot weather is a motivating factor - I hate that.

LadybirdDaphne · 12/06/2023 07:12

Saw photos of myself soon after Christmas, looking like a sack of lumps in a summer dress (it’s a summer Christmas where I live). Also my knees were starting to give me grief and a few other health niggles. I’m also early 40s so thought I better lose some weight before I get perimenopausal and my metabolism packs up… Also going on a big holiday next week which provided long term motivation.

Have lost a stone over about 5 months by cutting snacks and unhealthy desserts (allowing an occasional treat). A fibre supplement recommended by my GP has the added benefit of making me feel fuller. I also walk for about 1.5 hours most week days, to and from work (the return journey is v steeply uphill). Would still like to lose a couple more kg, but slow and steady seems to be winning the race. Now back to pre-DC weight.

orangie · 12/06/2023 07:16

Horrendous photos of me over Christmas

violinviolet · 12/06/2023 07:27

When I couldn't walk more then five mins without my hips killing me was that moment I knew

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 12/06/2023 07:33

I have a disabled child that will not be able to live independently so I need to live forever! I was getting breathless just walking up the stairs so knew that it was time to make changes.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/06/2023 07:35

morelippy · 06/06/2023 22:20

Fear. It dawned on me I was risking my health, my mobility, my whole older self.

Being able to fit in clothes was a bonus, knowing I'd reduce my chances of ill health did it for me

Me too, I had a health scare and I'm down 3 stone. Really motivated me.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 12/06/2023 07:36

Dia-bloody-betes. Was the best kick up the arse.
4st down, I’m fitter, healthier & can actually (almost) tolerate having my photo taken.

A shame that despite weight loss my spinal pain it still ferocious, but it’s all degenerating from a congenital issue that reared its head when I was 6st at 16. And now I’m 50 so not unexpected with this deformity!

IrritableVowel · 12/06/2023 07:47

Turned 40 in lockdown and instead of being able to have a lovely party, I was sat at home in a bubble with a few family and realised if I kept going the way I was, 50 wouldn't be too much fun either!

I firstly signed up to a 1 to 1 coach, which was great but a little too strict for me long term.

Next I did 2 sessions of Bodyslims, an online 10 week programme which I really like.

I am 4 stone down, 1.5 more to go. Taking a break at the moment and trying to get used to maintaining on my own. I can't spend my life signed up to things!

Will be 43 later this year, so it hasn't been fast, but the difference in my health, energy and appearance is worth every minute of it

Thisisworsethananticpated · 12/06/2023 07:53

Health
both physical and mental
im turning 50 this year too

But I started back in 2018 and it’s ongoing and I have blips
that said once you see results , it keeps you going

I know everyone says it’s diet only but the exercise part is very toning and worth doing as part of it

the whole ‘losing weight ‘ isnt hugely motivating
bit ‘getting healthy ‘ is

Pantsinthewash · 12/06/2023 08:05

I read a very similar thread back in March which got me thinking about my weight situation. And it didn't take long to conclude that I was bored. So bored of feeling and looking overweight and the negative thoughts about it which would intrude during the day. Or trying to drop off at night and thinking about the stuff I shouldn't have eaten that day and how tomorrow would be different. Except it never was. I went on the Fast 800 for the first time at the end of March and haven't looked back. I'm over a stone lighter and feel and look so much better. My formerly tight clothes are looser and I look better in them. When I look in the mirror I have a positive self-dialogue and none of the previous negativity about myself. So glad I found that earlier thread on MN and that I took the first step. I would urge anyone struggling with their weight to just make a start. Once you find the right method for you and your body and see the scales moving in the right direction, that will hopefully be motivating so you do it for another day, another week and so on.

Twilightstarbright · 12/06/2023 08:09

Not a popular one but DH sat me down and raised his concerns about my health and he was absolutely right. I realised I owe it
to myself and my family to be as healthy as
possible.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 12/06/2023 08:20

I’ve spent most of my life slim-ish and in the healthy weight range; my underlying diet is healthy and I exercise regularly.

I’d been in denial for a while, pushing the boundaries - big portion sizes, daily treats etc.

Combination of things triggered the change

  • trying on a pair of jeans I havent worn for a while
  • im about to retire and was feeling a bit unsure; getting on top of my eating has given me back a sense of control.
Already 4 weeks in I feel so much better.
