Advertised as a 3 bed house. What could you really use a 2x2 room for?

When my ex and I were separating I moved into our box room . I had a single bed, child’s wardrobe little chest of drawers and a clothes rail. It was tiny but it was my sanctuary until I moved out and I didn’t want to move DS out of his room . One evening it all turned nasty and the police were involved. The ex sent the policeman up to see me and teenage DS but I didn’t think I could ask them to sit on the bed with us 😂

We're using ours as a nursery currently but it will literally only fit a wardrobe in alongside a cot bed, so when DD needs a single bed I've no idea what we'll do. Ours is also particularly awkward as the radiator takes up one wall, the door another, and the window another. So we're left with only one uninterrupted wall to play with

You can get radiators moved Christmas - maybe to the wall under the window?

Wobblybobble · 08/06/2023 07:15

I’m with you OP, that’s a closet or a cupboard. Maybe a tiny office at a push.

This is something I want to do in each room of the house but affordability is a factor at the moment unfortunately

Fair enough. Sounds like the room is ok as it is for now anyway.

Our 3rd bedroom is only slightly bigger and is home to 21 year old ds1 and has been for many years.

He has a bed, desk and chest of drawers. It’s fine! We don’t want to stretch ourselves by moving or looking at a loft extension. He’s at university now and we are secretly hoping he moves out after university🤣

I grew up sharing a room. Think expectations have really changed over the generations.

I too grew up sharing a room (it was absolutely normal where I was and still had more personal space than 2x2🙈) .
Still don't accept 2x2 as official bedroom for sale purposes.

When I lived abroad properties were advertised by how many rooms they had (not including utility rooms like kitchen/bathroom). It was up to you to decide what those rooms were for (4 room house for sale, for example). I thought that was quite a good approach.

You could get a bed and a corner wardrobe in, and possibly some overhead storage and shelving.

Applesinmyhouse · 08/06/2023 08:36

Grew up in a 1930s semi. The small room is now my teenage nephews room. There’s a bed, a fitted wardrobe with cupboards over the bed, tv console and chair. Shelves too. It’s small but not hideously cramped, he can fit everything he wants in it. It’s a bigger room than many flat bedrooms I’ve been in!

whereeverilaymycat · 08/06/2023 11:14

I just looked up our small room as I find that difficult and it's 2.32m x 2.62m. I think 2x2 is really pushing it.

We are actually moving a wall at some point to make two small doubles rather than a bigger double and tight single. Then it's fairer on the kids too. Main bedroom is fine.

If anyone looking at this is having trouble with their small bedroom layout, there's an excellent thread over on property. Some posters have shared some pictures and really clever ideas on getting the most out of little spaces.

whatkatydid2013 · 08/06/2023 11:43

Agree people are not clear how small this is. Assuming ceiling has the height you could just fit in a loft bed in that space (2m x 90cm for various most singles) but assembling would be a challenge I’m sure.
Under that is space for a small desk/chair & some drawers. If you are lucky with the layout you might also get a wardrobe on opposite wall to the bed. It’s fine to sleep in but it would be very small to do much else. Our Ukrainian guest has a much bigger space (3.5 x 2.5) that we planned layout in a way to make it as easy as possible to maximise storage and that’s still pretty small to live in

When we moved into our house we looked at a new build and the 4th bedroom wasn't big enough to you a single bed in. It shouldn't have been advertised as 4 bed
