To ask straight out

What someone wants for their house at a viewing? In Scotland so it's the 'offers over' system. Would I be a cf to just ask the current owner straight out when I go.

I'd ask, why not cut to the chase. I was asked and we told them what we we looking for 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good approach. Just ask. They might tell you and then you can have dialogue. However it's more likely they'll say all money dialogue through the estate agent. If you've sold you're in a really strong position as loads of offers are failing / taking too long to sell own house. If you've sold you might be lucky.

An estate agent won’t tell you. They’ll indicate the notes of interest and might reveal if any offers have been made, but that’s about it.

If you’re shown around by the homeowners, they might give you an indication, but be warned: we felt like we had a good rapport with one couple, so we politely asked them what it would take to buy the house. The HV was £250,000 and they claimed they’d already had an offer for £290,000.
We considered offering £295,000, but didn’t in the end. Being nosey, we went back and checked out the sold price a couple of months later. It was £278,000. Whether they lied or not, we don’t know, but we likely would have offered £280-285k. So glad we didn’t because our ideal home that is a much better fit popped up two months later.
