Car Claims Handlers - Motorway accident?

Accident yesterday, thankfully I am fine. Was in second lane of three lane motor way on a straight section 70mph. Then suddenly knew car had been hit and then glanced to see lorry grill on passenger window... maintained control of steering wheel ( not completely sure what I did but I think I rocked it left and back to middle when there was resistance)..Car came to a rest thankfully after 3 or so seconds. It was straight section on second lane but I ended up perfectly facing the hard shoulder on the hard shoulder with my mid section at the halfway point of his grill ! ie my boot and front end had roughly same distance sticking out on both sides. Lorry driver said he was in first lane...impact mainly square on the passenger rear door and passenger rear wheel. Tyres for both vehicles appear ok so no blow outs for either. I was not attempting to change lanes simply driving straight on motorway.

Any ideas what could have happened for near-sided lane truck and middle lane car to end up on hard shoulder?

If I drifted into near side lane would the physics mean the above?

If lorry drifted into middle lane would we be no where near the hard shoulder?

I am truly baffled though thankful as at 60 it is my major first car accident ever...

Car is uneconomical to fix so insurance company has offerred a value....it's difficult to get similar car , spec and mileage for the value offered when i look at auto trader....is there wiggle room with insurance valuation?

Also they were not interested in the accident photos at all, just wanted the photos of the damaged car parked at home now

Any more claims advisors with advice? whats the uplift range on initial value realistically? just had another look and think i can get similar car, spec and mileage at 20% above the insurance valuation

My husband , a lorry driver, always says to me to keep away from lorries , keep back from them, overtake widely on motorways, keep way behind on roundabouts, etc they have vast blind spots, they can’t see you until the last minute so be very wary.

That is very good advice.

I hate it when all the traffic is moving at the same speed, and I'm stuck on the outside of a lorry. If feasible (and safe) I'll speed up so I'm ahead of them, or slow down so they're in front of me and tuck in behind them.

You won’t get more, not unless you have GAP insurance as part of your insurance policy. There’ll be little room for negotiation. You can try but you are unlikely to get full market value (trade price or below, definitely not near dealer forecourt prices).

@Rainbowshine Thanks for the note - sounds like you know the industry!

I feel fine and no aches/pains. Do i need to get checked out somehow by someone medical just to be sure?
