I stopped breastfeeding my 15 month old around 10 months ago and recently noticed I still have milk! The other day I was getting ready to shower and noticed it on my nipple and I can still express it from both breasts and occasionally I get the let down feeling.

AIBU to think this is a bit bizarre!?

Or is this normal?

I don’t know but it doesn’t sound normal.
I’m currently still breastfeeding my first.
A friend of mine says she can still express milk (years after stopping breastfeeding) she went to the doctor as she wanted to get tested, but he just told her to stop touching her breasts!

SixKeys · 04/06/2023 22:24

I still have milk 2 years later. Ugh.

Forgetmenott · 04/06/2023 22:27

I have little dots of milk if I squeeze, three years later. The GP said it looked like pus, and when antibiotics didn’t clear it up I was referred for a mammogram. The consultant said you can have tiny bits of breast milk for the rest of your life and it’s not an issue!

fozwomble · 04/06/2023 22:29

Totally normal. Pain in the ass but normal.

Scoobyblue · 04/06/2023 22:29

I had exactly the same for a few years after I’d stopped breastfeeding. Apparently it’s very normal.

aramox1 · 04/06/2023 22:30

I did too. Used it for mosquito bites and nettle stings.

PlantDoctor · 04/06/2023 22:34

Wow, I didn't know it could last so long! Mine went pretty quickly after stopping bf. Humans are strange :)

ohwhatadustyanswer · 04/06/2023 22:46

I get horrible looking scabby brown bits on nipples 3+ years after giving birth. Referred by a GP to specialist for investigation. Turns out it’s clumps of old milk that still leaks.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/06/2023 22:54

I still very occasionally. My youngest child is 10yo! (Fed until she 2.5yo) I noticed it was linked to my cycle, I'm guessing its ovulation day.
I was pregnant, breastfeeding or both for 5 years solid, I don't find it that surprising it had a lasting effect.

IHateLegDay · 04/06/2023 22:56

I can still squeeze out tiny amounts and I stopped BFing 2 and a half years ago 🙈

upanddownandupanddown · 04/06/2023 23:00

My youngest is 11 and I can still express a little milk. I have been to the breast clinic about it and they have done ultrasound scans and looked at the milk under the microscope, and they said it was nothing to worry about.

Snooks1971 · 04/06/2023 23:00

Totally normal, we’re just animals, well mammals at the end of the day I suppose.

I was the same OP.

ArgosKettle · 04/06/2023 23:01

My youngest is 9 and I still get a drop out if I squeeze my nipples.

I also leak slightly if I hold newborns

TeenLifeMum · 04/06/2023 23:05

I can still squeeze some and my dtds are almost 12.

dearJayne · 04/06/2023 23:05

Not bf dd for 4 years and still have milk.

Breast clinic said it happens sometimes but do get checked out at the Breast clinic.

Bluebellbike · 04/06/2023 23:06

When I stopped breastfeeding in 2000 I was prescribed tablets to dry the milk up. Does that not happen any more?

TiaraBoo · 04/06/2023 23:13

Wow! I missed 2 feeds (kept having to go back into hospital) and boom no milk.

Shoemadlady · 04/06/2023 23:13

I could you be pregnant?
