Constantly being compared looks wise to other relatives and them going on about it all the time ?
Aibu to just want to look unique to myself and have my own characteristics and personality?

They sound very vacuous and immature. I would struggle to remain patient with people like this.

LilacRain12 · 04/06/2023 17:55

I don't want to be compared to any of them. Just want to be me.

I think it depends a bit on the context! Are they just pointing out a resemblance or is it more than that?

BCBird · 04/06/2023 18:43

What is the purpose of their comments?

PuffinsRocks · 04/06/2023 18:50

That depends. If you're a Radford or one of the Jackson 5 I'd say YAB a bit U (but still understandable) because that's how you've made your money. If it's that your mum keeps telling you that your sister Jane is thinner then YANBU.

SallyWD · 04/06/2023 19:00

Do they just say you look like someone else in the family? Or are they comparing your appearances e.g. "Oh Jane's thinner/fatter than you" etc? If they're just pointing out resemblances then it's fairly normal. I'm always told I look exactly like my mum. It's true.

LilacRain12 · 05/06/2023 22:30

Just pointing out the resemblance but just gets irritating when they go on about it all the time and say crap like 'You have the same shaped head. ' or make out we are like identical twins. I feel I can't just be me.

I'm sure you do have a look which is unique to you, but that you also resemble family members. Most people do! Are people saying you look like someone in your family who you don't get on with? I get why that could be a bit jarring

Conkersinautumn · 05/06/2023 22:33

Just give blunt comments like 'it's almost like we share some DNA'.
'Anyone would think we are related or something'
'Would you prefer I looked like the milkman?'
It's inane, other ideas give them a set of conversation prompt cards as obviously they've run dry!

timegoingtooquickly · 06/06/2023 06:33

This seems like a completely non issue!!!

It is a complete non issue. Can't believe this would bother anyone in the slightest.

pilates · 06/06/2023 06:41

I wouldn’t get het up about it tbh

GetDownkeith · 06/06/2023 06:42

I get it. Its hard to articulate but my mum always did this and it never felt like just a passing comment it was years of it. I don't mind when someone says aww you look like your sister of course we do but with my mum.it felt different and made me feel almost defensive.
Wish I'd thought of some of the remarks like it's almost like we share dna.

TheKobayashiMaru · 06/06/2023 06:43

Do you think there is malice in what they say? Are they trying to make a point about your heritage for example.

LilacRain12 · 06/06/2023 12:15

No, it just gets ridiculous. I mean the same head shape comment for example. And 'When you stand together I can barely tell you apart.' And also saying we are alike in personality which we are definitely not.
