Any dentists about? Quick question

Hi, I have a crown fitted on a molar tooth and a while back some of the crown or tooth (I'm not sure which) came off and left a gap in between, just above my gum. This is allowing bacteria, food, drink etc in and caused me severe toothache. I went the dentist and was told I need root canal treatment.

However the dentist has started the first stage of root canal and said she has removed the nerve and it is fine to eat on. However I am getting severe tooth ache again and a lump and pain in the jaw above said tooth/crown.

My main concern is that she said she will be leaving this crown on with the gap in for a few months to see how the root canal settles. Surely this is just going to get decay in again with still having the broken crown? Kind of defeats the purpose of having root canal?

Please help. Is this the correct procedure? Would you/should you leave the broken crown on for a few months after root canal?

I'm due in next week for the final stage of the root canal and again she is going to leave this crown on.

I'm in a similar situation. I had a root canal eight weeks ago and the tooth broke leaving a hole and my gum sort or exposed. I'm getting an implant, I hope, but it all seems to be taking forever to get the process started. Like you I'm worried that I've got a hole in my gums. I keep using that temporary filling stuff.

My first implant appointment isn't until the end of June and even then it's just a £170 chat.
