To get budget tyres?

Or is that false economy?

I use my car for work so I do a lot of mileage.

The tyres are down to minimal tread again and I need to replace. I usually get the 'good' tyres but I've never really questioned if you get what you pay for or not.

Money is tight so I'm considering the budget ones.

So you will be mainly driving around or below 30mph then, so mid range tyres will be fine

This is the reason not to buy budget tyres. It’s always good to look at the Auto Bild tyre tests, this is from the 2023 summer tyre test. Wet braking from 62mph to a stop. 30% longer stopping distance for the worst performing and that’s before you get into all the other metrics. Decent mid-range tyres will usually be much higher performing and not a lot more expensive than budgets plus will last longer as well. Never scrimp on brakes and tyres.

Being buying budget tyres for 40 years. Perfectly happy with them.
The only thing I don't do is buy part-worn or re-treads etc.

PS - it's not my tyres that are responsible for my username.

I always buy the best ones offered. They are the only thing keeping your car in contact with the road.

A couple of years ago, when still in the "cheap and cheerful" era of life, I had cheap tyres and ended up spinning on a roundabout during wet conditions. It wrecked my steering, and since then I've been hyper paranoid about tyres, and driving in the wet.

I'm the same. We live in an area that tends to get a lot of snow. When my tyres needed replacing we got Michelin CrossClimate 2s due to their excellent traction on wet and snowy roads. When my daughter's car needed new tyres we got the same ones. They're not cheap, but neither is a car accident.

I buy cheaper ones as they have rarely lasted long enough to wear down, punctures due to the rather bad roads!

I've got Falkens that have done nearly 40k miles and still going strong.
