Question to landlords

Hi

a question to landlords or anybody who may know

I need to give my landlord notice as I need to move out of the property but I am currently in arrears, not by a full month, a couple of hundred pounds behind due to a change of circumstances one month. Do I need to pay off the arrears before I can give my landlord notice to move out? I am on a rolling contract

No you can still give notice, but expect to pay the rent you owe.

They can take it from your deposit,

Try to get rid of/pay the arrears if you can but it’s OK to give notice any time.

If you’ve had to mess around with your rent he might be glad for you to go. Right now there’s a shortage of rented accommodation so he’s on a winner and can possibly charge more rent to his next tenant.

Landlord (LL) can take from deposit but if it all goes pear shaped you could end up with a CCJ which will fk up your credit rating and future LL referencing. Try to avoid that at all costs.

Thank you everyone. I will definitely pay off the arrears before I go, just wasn’t sure if I could give notice whilst having them. My landlord is thinking of selling up but I have found somewhere new to go which will suit better as it is closer to DC school

You can give notice now.

I had a tenant in arrears that gave notice and we let her off most of it as we were keen for her to move on. If someone has no money to pay keeping them in a contract won’t help.
