The Andrew Tate interview is being drowned out by yet more Schofield

The interview with Tate is not only telling in terms of what an odious human being he is but surely is way more in the public interest especially to anyone with impressionable teenage sons. Yet more Philip Schofield has relegated it to a secondary story.

On any other day it would be front and centrel and it really should be now.

I was talking with a friend (who's a secondary school teacher) about how teens/young people have so many more outside influences than our generation.

I'm actually a bit embarrassed about some of my views when I was a teen that were mainly formed from being influenced by my (conservative) parents and friends I had at a church youth group, and the odd thing I might have read in a magazine!

Now with social media there are so many influencers and influences that teens can engage with and connect with outside their RL. In some ways there is benefit from hearing a range of world views but also massive drawbacks when people like Andrew Tate have a platform to engage with young people. My 16 year old DD started telling me about someone called Andrew Tate probably more than a year ago, that boys in her class followed him and bought into his misogynistic views, but I only properly became aware of him when the twitter thing with Greta Thunberg arose.

I was actually really annoyed at the BBC for doing the Tate interview. Why give the scrote more publicity?

Schofield? Meh!

Agree 100%

By the time children are old enough to be influenced by the likes of Andrew Tate what is going on at home is only going to be a small level of what in influencing them and realistically the one they are most likely to rebel against to impress friends and things.

I just dont agree with this. A child spends it's whole childhood watching their mother doing the grunt work. Dad comes and goes as he pleases, doesn't do anything around the house. We teach them every single day that women are just there to serve. Then we send them out in to the big wide world saying "respect women!" " women are equal!" . Misogyny is as rife as its ever been and we wonder why? Setting an example to your children in the home, that men and women give just as much as each other is the single best thing you can do for your children. Children learn by example. There's a thread right now about a sahm who's husband wants to right a list of duties for her and check then off at the end of the day. What do we think is going to happen to the kids growing up in that kind of environment?
Andrew Tate latches on to the misogyny that is already hardwired in from a very young age.

That may be the example in your home but it’s not the example in all homes

In some homes and not in others. Not in mine and I have three boys, all of whom have seen Andrew Tate’s content and have friends that discuss it. Because I know about it, I’ve been able to talk to them about it, which at least helps a little. Many parents are actually unaware. It’s naïveté at best to think that today’s generation are not heavily influenced by online content.

Agree 100%

Plus side - some parents are unaware of him and might now be wondering if their child (or husband, hah!) is consuming / being targeted by his content.

Oh they absolutely are @WordsandSentences I don't deny that one bit. The foundation starts with us though. 100%.

Yes. And the content is anti-women so difficult to defend against as a woman.

It does. But you might be shocked by the pervasive of this. It’s like Japanese Knotweed to a gardener.

cardibach · 02/06/2023 21:09

Neither Tate nor Schofield should be in the news. The government is taking itself to court ffs. Focus on important things.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 02/06/2023 21:10

Oh im not shocked @WordsandSentences have you seen the misogyny on this site spouted by women? Nothing shocks me anymore.
It is so hard being a parent in this day and age with the influence of social media, I just think the least we can do is set a good example in the home.
