To be up worrying

Sorry to put this in AIBU but I need quick advice.

My 11 week old DD had her last bottle at 5.50pm. She's been a bit unsettled tonight, only wanting to sleep on me or DH but refusing a bottle when we assumed she was hungry. I sat with her sleeping on me until 11 p.m., expecting her to wake up for a bottle as usual (normally between 9-10pm then down for the night). She didn't wake up, so I changed her nappy at 11pm. This woke her up, but she still isn't hungry and has now gone to sleep in her next to me.

I can't settle to sleep knowing she's gone nearly 6 hours since her last bottle and only had 22 ounces today. I'm worried she'll go all night as usual and be dehydrated. Surely she can't go from 6pm until morning at 11 weeks old?

To add - her nappy was not very full despite it being 5 hours since the last one.

IABU - I should go to sleep, she'll tell me when she's hungry
IANBU - I shouldn't risk her sleeping so long on such little milk in this heat

Will she dream feed?

Careerdilemma · 01/06/2023 23:50

Does she have a temperature? Any rash or anything? What's her colour like?

Some babies can go through the night at that age so I wouldn't panic if she seems generally well. Maybe she's just not hungry. Chances are she will wake you up for a feed at some point though.

Careerdilemma · 01/06/2023 23:50

Also assuming you're in the UK it's not exactly boiling hot...

NEmama · 01/06/2023 23:52

Mine went through night at that age.

ChristmasJumpers · 01/06/2023 23:54

She isn't hot and seems content sleeping. It is 22.5 degrees in our bedroom, so you're right, not boiling, just hotter than recommended for babies. It's unnerving me as she has been on 5-6 6oz bottles a day for weeks now and never gone to bed without one. Probably a bit of anxiety creeping in!

She won't dream feed. We've never managed it

You will dream of this in a few months! I would leave her be and head to sleep!

Mine went through night at that age.

She has been sleeping through the night for a few nights now but usually after a 10pm ish bottle until around 6am. I feel like 12 hours is too long if she sleeps until 6am now. I might be wrong though, I'm a first time mum so probably fretting unnecessarily

@ChristmasJumpers is she's having wet nappies isn't hot and breathing normally I'd leave her. My bf DD slept 11 to 12 hours at that age

UpaladderwatchingTV · 01/06/2023 23:59

As long as you're sure that she's not sick in any way OP, I think I'd try and grab some sleep while you can. You'll probably find that you wake on and off, so you can check on her then, but maybe after the warm weather we're having, she's just not that hungry.

threefiftysix · 02/06/2023 00:09

Mine went through phases at this age where they drunk less and then a week later drunk loads. Honestly don't worry. If she's still not drinking much tomorrow maybe get her seen but I think it's common for them to have days where they just need less. A bit like adults.

nahwhale · 02/06/2023 00:12

She might be a bit poorly or she might wake you up at 4 all hungry.

Happyhappyday · 02/06/2023 00:26

My DC was definitely sleeping 12 hours with no feed at that age. She did abruptly jump a few hours all of a sudden too

NatureNurture85 · 02/06/2023 00:29

Do you want to try a dream feed? Just pick her up and give it a go?

Rinkydinkydoodle · 02/06/2023 00:43

I’d second attempting a dream feed, if she is hungry but tired she might just respond. It does seem a small amount of milk in a day but assuming she’s otherwise normal (ie. no rash/temp/nice and bright when she’s awake) she’s probably just not in the mood. As others have said, she’ll shout you when she’s hungry. If it’s really worrying you to the point you can’t sleep then you could always set your phone to vibrate for 4/5am and see what she thinks about a bottle then?

TheShellBeach · 02/06/2023 01:35

I don't think 12 hours is too long at 11 weeks.
One of mine slept through from 6 weeks and was fine.

ChristmasJumpers · 02/06/2023 04:57

Thanks everyone. I decided on an alarm at 3am to check on her and she was still asleep and fine. She's just woken me up now for a bottle.

I had tried a dream free before posting, she just wasn't having any of it, that bottle is day full on my bedside table as we speak 🙄

It’s been a mini heatwave on the south coast !

I really wouldn't call this weather a heat wave. I think that's more 30 plus.

TheShellBeach · 02/06/2023 13:22

I was going to post that she would wake up in the very early morning.
It looks like she's about to start sleeping through for 12 hours. That's normal, and I think she'll just gradually wake up later and later, until she wakes between 6 - 7.

TheShellBeach · 02/06/2023 13:23

So what I meant was, don't bother trying a dream feed. Let her set her own rhythm.
