That the passport office service has been unacceptable

Has anyone had an issue with the passport service where it hasn't arrived in ten weeks?
I sent my sons passport off in March tracked by Royal Mail - it was signed for by the passport office the next day.
Since then I've had numerous conversations/emails but still no passport- it hasn't even been scanned into their system yet.
I can't get past the customer agent who gives conflicting advice. They've lost it, they never received it, you'll get a call from the management team- this never happens.
I contact them again- the process starts from scratch.
I've been doing this for weeks.

I've logged a formal complaint which you are supposed to get a response to in 15 days but still nothing.

Our travel date is in the next 10 days - This feels so shit and frustrating, I'm a single parent, I've scrimped and saved for a year for a break abroad with my ds.

Has anyone got any further advice?

@newisernamee can I ask if the passport eventually got sent out and if you got any compensation in the end?

@goingsomewhere I've already phoned the travel agent in the hope they'd issue vouchers or allow me to postpone but I'd have to forfeit the whole holiday

it eventually turned up in June! I was calling several times a day for weeks in the run up to the holiday, but once we knew he couldn’t come I couldn’t face ringing them any more. We had no compensation and honestly, not even an apology. The staff were still all working from home and clearly didn’t care. We would be on hold for an hour and they would answer and then hang up on us. It was soul destroying!

@newusernamee oh my god, I thought they'd at least compensate you/me for their incompetence.
I can't believe they didn't even apologise, well actually I can as I haven't had one so far either.
I really have spunked 1.5k away havent I
