My DH arrived home the other day and had a new driving licence waiting for him….weird as the old one hadn’t expired but we didn’t think much of it.
Then a few days later a letter arrived from a car insurance company saying our email was wrong and we needed to get in touch. We phoned them and it is for a car we don’t own so we said not us, cancelled the policy.
Then today a V5 and a credit agreement arrived for a £40000 car!
we have told the police who were hopeless but what do we actually need to do!?!? Help!

If you own your house then get onto the land registry to set up alerts on it. Everyone should do this anyway, in case anyone is trying to sell their house from under them.

Did you read the thread? Did you not see that this is not a police matter? Did you think the OP, facing a potentially scary debt and an unknown scenario was thinking about these things? Did you have anything useful to say? Do you have any empathy at all?

Thank you all so much.
At least the being one step ahead of the prostitutes gave me a chuckle! Pretty sure I don’t need to LTB just yet! 😂😂
Everywhere is shut now so going to ring round in the morning and will definitely have a think about how this could have happened! He does have endless apps so maybe we need to have a digital clear out.
Thanks everyone.

A very similar thing happened to my MIL she definitely doesn't have apps all over the place so I wouldn't assume it was that.

We have just had similar.

DH and I both had bank accounts DH also a credit card opened in our names. We got the confirmations etc though the post. It happened to our neighbours too. We live rurally and our Mail boxes are at the end of the driveway. Turns out a guy (who was seen) was taking post. It seems he took mail from our post boxes, used our details and opened accounts in our names. Thankfully as I said we managed to intercept the actual cards and account details before he got them. And we were able to cancel the accounts. Our names have now been added to Cifas and we have Experian accounts which we are checking regularly.

Police were totally uninterested. They actually did speak to him as he was spotted by someone and they came when he was still hanging around. They said it was the person who called them’s word against his.

I would get back to the Insurance company and get a complaint in process.

They have set up an insurance policy in your name so they cannot have completed their due diligence correctly.

They may well have had an auto KYC pass on your husband but how was the policy paid for. If there was a name mismatch on the payment method then that should have flagged.
