Please help, can't cope with these symptoms anymore

Just hoping someone has experience of this and whether the GP has been able to help, currently waiting to hear from them re an appointment.

Basically since I had my son 2 years ago my period symptoms have completely changed. Before I had quite heavy periods and tummy cramps, bit grouchy but nothing terrible.

Now it's completely different and I feel absolutely awful for 2 weeks of the month. The bleeding itself is actually lighter and I can deal with the cramping and aches.

There are a few symptoms that have changed a lot since I had DS, but the worst is around 2 weeks before my period I start to feel randomly nauseous throughout the day, like morning sickness felt, and my head just swims. I feel dizzy and shaky and often like I'm about to fall over. I can also have moments where (sorry if this makes no sense!) I don't feel like I'm in my own body. Like I'm going through the motions of whatever I'm doing but I feel completely zoned out/out of it. This gets gradually worse until a few days before my period then it stops when the bleeding starts.

I assume this is down to hormones but is there anything that can be done? I feel genuinely unwell and it can be scary sometimes how weird I feel.

I'm at the end of my tether with it. Just sat at work today feeling like the room randomly starts spinning or like I'm leaning over to one side when I'm not.

Sorry it's not actually an AIBU but I just needed traffic.

I can't comment on what it could be, initially I thought "iron deficiency" but I'm not a doctor, although I can feel very much like how you describe in the week up to my period.

You definitely need to have some bloods done though - for iron, thyroid, hormonal tests etc.

I'd also mention that sometimes these sorts of physical symptoms can be linked to mental health - for instance, I have ADHD, and if I'm burnt out (and as a parent of a young child working full time/running household, I can easily see this being the same for you!) I can feel very physically run down - dizzy, nauseous, dissociative (when you don't feel in your body) and swimming/fizzy head. I'm not saying it's a MH issue, but if you have/are experiencing burnout generally, it may peak around your period.

Could it be PMDD?

Agree that you should discuss it with your GP and probably have various tests. If things changed after you had the baby what have you done about contraception since? If it turns out to be hormonal maybe going in the pill might help. I’m not any kind of doctor or nurse but those are the things that occur to me.

I'm only in my twenties so I do hope it's not to do with menopause 😫

I used to feel very shaky during my period in my twenties and was probably not eating enough and also iron deficient.

Being pregnancy/ breastfeeding/ looking after babies hammers your body and gives you limited recovery time.

Go and get checked by your GP, get some multivitamins with iron and look at whether you are getting enough decent nutrition.

Don't mean this to be dismissive at all, but could it be mental health-related? I quite often had that swimmy-head feeling when my anxiety wasn't controlled very well. It feels like a very physical thing. My anxiety often followed my menstrual cycle as well.

Hi OP, did you manage to get this sorted? And if so, how did you resolve it? I’m having the same symptoms now and I’m 12 months postpartum.
