To wish I spoke like old people?

Does anyone else wish they had a stronger regional accent?
It seems to be that regional accents, in their truest form, are really only spoken by older people today.

My grandparents both had wonderful strong Welsh accents. They spoke English correctly, but retained a strong 'educated Welsh accent'.

Despite growing up in the same town as them, I sound English. People often think I'm from London or the Home Counties. I was sent to Boarding School and then on to Cambridge and so have no trace at all of a regional accent.

Honestly not really lol. I live in the North East and although I know I sound Geordie I make an effort not to sound too "whey aye man" 😂I speak on the phone a lot at work so I make sure I annunciate my words properly. Also sadly at uni I learned that a lot of people judge a North Eastern accent and immediately assume you're stupid.

Why would you have a regional welsh accent if you didn’t live there growing up as you were in boarding school then at university in England

I still have my accent but wish I didn’t

This is the reason why I hate my accent

I have lived in the south all my adult life and whilst I can’t point to any one incident I know. It has given the wrong impression of me and held me back

Nope. Maybe it's different if you have a nice sounding local accent but I'm from the Black Country so quite relieved I have a fairly neutral accent and so do my DCs.

People from other areas can definitely tell we're Midlanders but people in the Midlands can't tell exactly where I'm from whereas my parents and DB have/had very obvious BC accents.

It's people's prejudices that are the problem, not your accent.

I love a regional accent.

I find older peoples accents quite comforting, they remind me of my grandparents and being young.
i agree they are nicer than there modern day versions.
