Did you know benefits claimants can get half-price broadband?

According to Ofcom, awareness of this scheme is very low.

If you or someone in your household claims Universal Credit, you could switch to any of the tariffs available.

All major providers also include people on Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Income Support.

Some providers might include additional benefits, like Personal Independence Payment and Attendance Allowance.

The person receiving the benefit needs to be the main person on the contract.

Social tariffs: Cheaper broadband and phone packages

Social tariffs can provide a safety net for customers who might be struggling to afford their broadband or phone services.

Yes but the speeds were shite. I couldn't even manage a video call, which I need for work and hospital appointments.

Isn’t it only really slow broadband though?

Not for me, but I have been a Sky customer for ages so they actually put the speed up from the package I was on.

With Sky you don't need to be at the end but it does tie you in for 18 months, although if you do leave they don't charge you.

Just checked and sky basic is just 35 download speed. That’s not going to be anywhere near enough.
we have 200 and I think that’s the café minimum for 4 people gaming etc.

but yes it’s a great that they do cheap deals for people on benefits of course

We used to have FTTC broadband and the absolute maximum speed we could get was 39Mbps, I checked the cabinet figures online so knew it wasn't worth upgrading until we got full fibre. This was fine for DH to wfh and use Teams and for me to stream Netflix, iPlayer etc and internet browsing.

I too saw this on a Facebook advert and have just called BT to switch. It was fairly straightforward although I had to google it to find the process as it's not exactly well signposted on their website. The call handler asked my national insurance number, they will check with DWP if I am eligible and then I should be good to go saving around £40 a month.
You need to return any equipment not covered by the basic package so I am glad for once I still had those boxes in the understairs cupboard. BT send me a returns bag for them.
Well worth doing.
Not well enough advertising.
