Manager thinks I over stepped the line?

started my new role 3 weeks ago I was promised 2 weeks training then wfh. He dragged his feet ordering my wfh equipment so I went and chased it up myself. The reason it was taking so long is because he ordered quite a lot of screens. So I could have been waiting weeks for them to deliver them as they didn’t have all of them in stock.

I went and collected it as I am fed up with commute to be honest and I felt like if I didn’t sort it myself I would have been commuting for weeks.

I just felt like everyone was taking the mick I appreciate I am training. But no one was in the office to train me anyway it was all over teams.

AIBU? I don’t think I over stepped the line at all.

Why did you not speak to your manager about it?

PinkButtercups · 29/05/2023 20:39

Well you did a little bit because from what you've wrote you didn't chase it up with him and ask if you could collect and decided to take it upon yourself.

StoneofDestiny · 29/05/2023 20:39

the manager should be impressed you are showing drive and initiative!

treesareyellow · 29/05/2023 20:40

I can’t see an issue I would think you’d been proactive

Corporategeek · 29/05/2023 20:40

Because when I have asked about other things before he has took forever to come back to me. I just can’t be bothered with all the faff!

I think it's totally fine to go pick up your own equipment but I wouldn't have started working from home until they said I could.

Wherewithout · 29/05/2023 20:41

Sounds like you were showing initiative - I would have been pleased you had sorted it yourself and saved me the task!

CharlottenBurger · 29/05/2023 20:42

Your manager might get fed up with you because you seem able to do his job better than he can. The last time I did anything like that, it was well received, however I got lumbered with doing it for everybody else.

Corporategeek · 29/05/2023 20:46

he already said I was fine to wfh but I was waiting for screens to be delivered.

‘Promised’ WFH or does your contract expressly say this would be the case?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 29/05/2023 20:53

Where did you pick the screen up from ?

maybe they were delaying it to delay your work from home
