Overwhelmed Washing Machine

I know I was unreasonable :( I put the doormat in the washing machine. I know, I know, stupid, rookie error. Now it won’t drain. Probably all those coarse hairs have come off and blocked the pipe. What to do! If I open the door it will flood everywhere. If I open the drain filter it will also flood everywhere. The train filter is close to the floor so I can’t get a tray or anything underneath. HELP

Get every towel you own out and open the filter! Then clean the filter.

GiveupHQ · 29/05/2023 16:20

My door wouldn’t allow me to open if full of water

it would be an engineer call out

JubileeQueen123 · 29/05/2023 16:24

@Frogsdinner I’ll try that. Thank you. @GiveupHQ I’m not ready to give up yet.

If you open the filter cover does it not have a little rubber pull out pipe? Check an online manual just in case.

My last machine did this after I washed some sheepskins slippers (I think the sole had a filling similar to doormat). The water was trapped somewhere inside , no amount of checking the filter helped & even opening the door and tipping the machine over would drain it.
It was a really crap machine so I just replaced it, had it have been decent , I would have had the engineer out.

JubileeQueen123 · 29/05/2023 16:40

I’ve got the door open. Filter tea won’t open. I suspect it is rammed :(

machine drained, filter cleared, towels that saved the day now in on a hot wash. Fingers crossed! Now back to painting the fence !

Have you turned it off at the socket yet and then back on to see if it will drain?

JubileeQueen123 · 29/05/2023 17:34

I’ve got it clean and put a wash on. If it doesn’t drain then I’ll do that. Good tip. Thanks

I am not practical at all. But I found youtube so helpful for situations like this. I have managed to deal with a washing machine full with water like yours. I did have to wait for son to come home so we could safely tip the machine. very tight space - we both cursed a lot! And I was also able to deal with an error code on a dishwasher.

JubileeQueen123 · 29/05/2023 20:18

Sadly machine is still not draining :(
I will tip it and do on off again tomorrow. Can’t face any more shenanigans today.

My machine refused to drain, so I called the engineer out, only to discover that I'd moved the machine too far back and the outlet pipe was pinched. He literally pulled the machine forward by a couple of inches and everything worked just fine!

ToeJammed · 29/05/2023 21:16

I once had the same scenario op.
The filter on my machine is close to the floor with no drain tube, as I found out when I opened the filter and flooded the kitchen.
The second time it happened, me and my DH pulled it out, disconnected the pipes and dragged it to the back door, then with the front of the machine over the threshold, I opened the filter and let it drain outside.
You could try that tomorrow if you have someone to help you.

On another note, my DH told me if it happened again, he would take a sledgehammer to it.
I think he was joking, though fortunately I've not managed to do it again to find out. Plus, we don't own a sledgehammer.
