To ask for a new living room carpet in rental property. Photo attached

The carpet in the living room was worn and fraying since I moved in to the house. Over time from opening and closing the door it’s now come up and is a trip hazard and I’m struggling to get in and out the living room without the carpet coming up fully and getting stuck under the door.

my landlord has proposed a rent increase of £60 per month from next month. Aibu to ask for a new carpet?

Yanbu to ask. I think the usual rule is replacing every 7 years. When I did an initial visit to my new tenants, I noticed the carpet was really dirty so told him to choose what he wanted (with a limit!) and got the whole downstairs re-carpeted.

Oh I see it now - Yes that does look like it needs sorting!

That looks unsafe. Definitely ask for a new carpet.

That's not even carpet, it's underlay and exposed gripperods. What % increase is £60 per month because that sounds a lot?

Evandlu · 29/05/2023 13:06

@WeAreTheHeroes there is carpet over that but it’s come up and has become stuck under the door and that’s what is showing underneath. The carpet was very frayed when I moved in so it was bound to happen at some point. I think it will be a 10% increase from when I first moved in

No. YADNBU.

This is where it has wedged under the door

That's not safe at all and needs to be replaced ASAP.

It looks like it just needs fastening back down in the corner?
