Currently sat feeding my six day old baby while my just turned two year old naps. At the moment my partner and I have a "divide and conquer" approach - he took our son up for his nap while I changed the baby for instance. When it's just me with both of them my toddler either gets jealous, is too enthusiastic about his little sister so I have to redirect him so she doesn't get hurt, or starts making mischief to get my attention. I understand it's a huge change for him, but with only a week left before I'm home alone with them full time I'm genuinely panicking about how to get through the day. So, am I being unreasonable to feel like this and I just need to suck it up and muddle along as everyone else seems to cope just fine? Or am I not being unreasonable and this is really daunting and I've missed some tricks in how to make it work?! Any tips gratefully received!

site you’ll muddle on and do your best and in time you’ll fall into a routine! Good luck x

I used a playpen to put my baby in if I needed to do something with my toddler or was trying to get a meal ready. The baby was safe in there out of reach from his rather enthusiastic sister! I could also put the carry cot on top of a deep breakfast bar out of reach of grabbing hands. My toddler was 13 months old when baby arrived so was rather young to understand that he was not a toy doll!

Its one of those things that seems terrifying beforehand, but becomes easier quickly.

Make sure your toddler is getting Mummy time as well and your partner has the baby for a bit. They can need a bit of reassurance sometimes.

My DD quickly learnt that if she gave me the opportunity to feed and get the baby to sleep she could then have my undivided attention. We used to go out for a walk every afternoon, baby would fall asleep then we would head to the play park for example!

You'll do fine OP, you have a week so baby will be twice as old! You'll find your own rhythm. Unless baby is very colicky then it's a matter of keeping baby close to you while appearing to give lots of attention to toddler. It's very tiring though but you'll get your quiet baby snuggles at night when toddler is down. I'd say bed time will be the most challenging. Best of luck
