Clothes for short developed girls?

FawnFrenchieMum · 29/05/2023 10:14

Can anyone suggest where to buy clothes for my developed 10 year old DD? She’s still pretty short (around 140-143cm, I think) but well developed. She has boobs, hips and bum (she’s started her periods too, not fat in anyway, just developed into a woman’s shape).

We have been trying to get her some new clothes for a few weeks now and really struggling. Girls trousers in up to 12-13/13-14 don’t fasten. Ladies are too long. Girls dresses are far too tight around her boobs but ladies are either too long or too low under her arms.

She is living in Nike Pro’s / yoga pants and this minute. Which is fine for every day but we’re going on holiday soon and have a few events coming up. She’s wanting some nicer / going out clothes. Its also making her really self conscious when every time we go shopping nothing fits!

Anyone else come across this, got any suggestions? Should shops offer different waist sizes for pre-teen girls?

Hollister are great. They are teen wear, so fashionable, and do a curvy range, which is fab for small waisted, curvy girls. For big boobs, stretch is your friend. New look and H&M, Uniqlo, do some cute tops.

KnittedCardi · 29/05/2023 12:47

Personally I think M&S and Next are too old lady. Even I won't buy stuff there.

elevenplusdilemma · 29/05/2023 12:53

How about the plus sizes in girls' clothes that some of the retailers offer now (M&S, Next etc.). You might have to order them online than buy instore.

SparklyBlackKitten · 29/05/2023 13:08

Why do you use words like " my developed 10 yo" and "boobs" and just the rest of it.
Its rather creepy!

Imagine her teacher /neigbor/family member talking about her in that way 😱

Just get her clothes from women's department in size XS or XXS. Or the petite range..

Rinkydinkydoodle · 29/05/2023 13:10

For the hols have a look on Jack Wills, it’s a nice halfway between girl and woman gear and does good tiny ‘women shaped’ clothes. The fits are good, because of elastic waists and ruching on the waists and front of their short tops/dresses. Also, the short stuff is super short; my 10 y.o perfectly fits their xxs. She’s 145cm. She also fits an XXS from H&M and Zara. Think the key is short/cropped but elasticated/ruched.

I have a very dinky mother, also 145cm, too small even for petite women’s clothing. However, she’s a size ten, so a bit curvy for girlswear nowadays. So she buys cropped or capri-length size 10 jeans and trousers which fit her perfectly in the leg. As do fitted tops and knitwear with 3/4 length sleeves.

Hankunamatata · 29/05/2023 13:13

I work with few shorter ladies, they swear that m&s do the best petite/extra short trousers, though you may have to order them in

Rinkydinkydoodle · 29/05/2023 13:17

Hollister, sorry, not Jack Wills! Just checked DD’s
wardrobe. If there’s too much excess in the armholes or slightly too fabric at the waist I just take a couple of darts under the pits/at the waist line so there’s no gape. Can also be let out the following year🥳
She’s also got a beautiful but very small ladies’ dress I got from eBay. The stuff from China is made for tiny ladies, a lot of the sellers give warnings about it, and exhaustive measurements, might be worth a look.

Fractiontoomuchfennel · 29/05/2023 13:26

I’d not considered Hollister. Thanks

We’ve been over the reason for it in the previous posts.

Plus sizes tend to be bigger everywhere, so still don’t really ‘fit’.

I'm very short (I've peaked at 4'11 and had to have a growth spurt to get here so was your daughters height at about 14) I have always had boobs and a larger bum so struggled with clothes from an early age.
Petite women's clothes weren't much of an option back then so I got very good at shortening clothes, then altering and then even making clothes.
I started making my clothes quite young (about 7) and my mum had to have uniform made for me as I was properly tiny and small uniforms weren't really available so I was used to wearing made stuff.
Now there is definitely more choice out there but completely get that it still might not be quite right. If she wanted to try altering stuff start with some charity shop stuff then it doesn't matter too much if it's not perfect.
Might give her a sense of control over her clothes rather than never being able to find the right thing.

wonkylegs · 29/05/2023 15:08

For summer stuff that's not too grown up try New look petite
Dorothy Perkins petite

If you choose carefully there should be some good options
You might need to order online and return as most places don't stock much petite in store

TemporaryNaming · 29/05/2023 15:54

Playsuits from Asda george, elasticated waist but longer length on DD so she tucks the shorts under the waistband if that makes sense? Also TU have lots of floaty style playsuits! Mostly get them on Vinted if I can't see anything nice in the shop!

KnittedCardi · 29/05/2023 16:52

I've also remembered apart from Hollister, DD also gets a bit from Superdry which is also good for tops and dresses in jersey, and small sizes.

RampantIvy · 29/05/2023 16:59

I tend to shop in real shops rather than online and IME Next do the widest range of petite clothing.

dameofdilemma · 30/05/2023 15:26

Dd is 11 and slightly taller and hit puberty at 9 so has definite curves while still being slim.

H&m jeans and Next jeans in age 11-12 have been good as they have an adjustable waist.
The teen range in h&m (divided) is still too big for dd (some t shirts fit but are a bit too clingy).

The other issue we have is as DD wears a bra, she's uncomfortable in anything sleeveless and a lot of kids summer dresses or jumpsuits seem to be sleeveless.

Benibidibici · 25/11/2023 17:41

4ft8 or so and well into puberty is really quite unusual. Have you seen a paediatrician?

Immediately sounds like an undiagnosed growth condition to me - often go hand in hand with relatively early puberty - to have already begun periods at 10 is quite early

I was wondering the same. But isn’t 143cm more like 4 ft 6?

My daughter started her periods in year 6, can’t remember if she had tuned 11. She really hasn’t grown much but is about 5ft.

Of course it’s not a given that she won’t grow but I might be tempted to keep an eye on her and possibly seek a check from a Dr.

TeenDivided · 25/11/2023 17:54

My 19yo is under 5ft.
I have spent years turning up trousers as even petite ones are too long.

Cropped trousers are good as they come out at full length.

Hankunamatata · 25/11/2023 18:00

Not trendy but my very petite work mate swears by m&s as they do - very short length of trousers/jeans online then next length is short/petite
