To think that wood effect aluminium blinds will be fine

Really posting for traffic.
We have a wide, dormer window, 50% of which is above a stairwell, so hard to access/see you close. It's my office/guest bedroom
We desperately need new blinds.
It's 257.5cm wide, which is above standard fit. They need to be right hand control for lift and tilt, also not standard.
We can only afford theore budget online places like Blinds to go, but I've been struggling to find what we need.
I've stumbled across some wood effect aluminium ones and wonder whether they will look naff or be ok.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

YABU - I've seen them up close, they look shit

YANBU - they're fine and.will.do the job

Are they aluminium or faux wood? Faux wood are really good, they don't expand like real wood and look just as good. Aluminium blinds look OK, they can get damaged and bend easier than faux wood, also they can have a tendacy to rattle loudly if there is an open window and a breeze.

I have replaced our aluminium blinds with faux wood.

Ah, good point re rattling.

They're aluminium. We have both actually elsewhere, aluminium white downstairs, but they are fitted to window, so don't rattle (as in attached to frame, so if you open the window, they are outside. We do have faux wood upstairs.

I’ve had a number of blinds from blinds2go. I’ve got wooden with tapes in the lounge and faux wood in other rooms (bedroom/laundry/kitchen). The wooden ones look better but I think that’s the tapes tbh. The faux wood is fine, looks good and better if it’s high humidity. Also must look good from the outside as realised that half my road now has them!

Ha! The issue I would happily have either faux or real wood, that isn't an issue, it's a bedroom and en suite is far away from the window. But, I am struggling to find the right width, in faux or real wood, with right hand controls.

If someone can find me that, I'll forget about wood effect aluminium! Although they are £100 cheaper.

I have wood effect plastic blinds from dunelm. I much prefer them compared to the wooden ones we had in our old house. They are much easier to clean as I found dust would become engrained in the wood but these are just a quick wipe. I was really annoyed with DP when he bought them but I wouldn't buy wood again.

Anyone seen the wood effect aluminium up close?

If difficult to access I'd be thinking more of what won't hold the dust.

Wood can become sticky if it gets to dirty/dusty and a pain to clean.

Good point re access and cleaning. I'm not really considering wood, just if they had it in the right size, I'd snap it up.
