To think I deserve more compensation?

We were due to go on a cruise holiday and the flight we were on was cancelled so we missed the boat. The holiday company have said they will refund us the cost and give us each £300 in their company vouchers.

I am thinking that £300 of vouchers isn’t very much for us now having taken a weeks holiday for nothing. Sat at an airport all day on the day we were meant to go and the following day had to wait to hear what was happening.

AIBU for thinking we should get more? And if so how do I go about it?!

£300 seems fair for a days inconvenience. The leave thing I would be trying to find an alternative holiday instead of posting on here otherwise the time off being wasted is really down to you surely ? Must be something you can fly out to today for a week

Ok so update! They have now emailed saying £100 of vouchers. The person who offered £300 was meant to phone back today. Instead they have emailed saying £100. No way will I book with them again if they stick with that!

That's shocking

Don't accept vouchers. Cash only. They are then just getting another holiday out of you. Which costs them nowhere near what it cost you so probably still making money. Did you spend money to get to the airport or with parking?

Compensation is meant to restore you to the position you would have been in had the party in the wrong not messed up.

Given they were unable to offer a suitable alternative and you could not cancel the leave at short notice (and nor should there be a presumption that you can) what I would consider "reasonable" here would be a full refund for the cost you paid, plus the equivalent of your daily earnings for the time off work that was booked, so that you can then book the same holiday again using said unpaid leave. That is being generous and not adding any additional amount on for inconvenience and disruption to your plans.

Your leave isn't wasted, you can still enjoy the time off work. £600 extra is generous imo

But it's not 600 for the op. It's 300. They are not one person.
