Changing school because there’s no after school club

We are moving to a new area this summer and luckily have been offered a place at an outstanding school that looks really nurturing with a nice community feel. However I’ve realised there is no breakfast club or after school club.

I would have been settled on this school and even though I work from home now I can’t help but think about the future and if I do need wrap around care for whatever reason.

I can put her down on the waiting list for another nearby school which does have breakfast club and after school club but it’s very oversubscribed.

So I don’t even know if I’ll get in for September and if it’s worth changing now. Otherwise I’ll be in limbo not buying any new uniforms etc until the last minute.

What is the likelihood of getting in the oversubscribed place? Such a shame the school has no after school club it puts you in such a tricky situation.

I asked a similar question. Are there any childminders that look after your school (I found one that does a breakfast club and drops them off to school and collects)

Have a look on childcare app ! And message now as lot are booking up already

The other issue with the oversubscribed school is getting into the Breakfast and After-school clubs which are likely to be even more oversubscribed!

Would you get into anyway? The after school club I mean? There’s a huge waiting list at my kids school, it’s not an ad-hoc basis by any means.

If you don’t need it now I wouldn’t change, anything could change in the next few years in schools provisions.

Our after school club and breakfast club shut down recently as it wasn’t making any money so just keep that in mind too. Just because there’s one there now doesn’t mean there always will be.

Also consider inset days etc. Having a child minder might make things easier in the long run.

What do other parents at the school do? There might be a private one that will do pick up.

hey op have you thought of childminders or local nurseries that have private breakfast and after school clubs?
also we’re in the process of moving to a new area however thought we couldn’t do the changing school process to we had physically moved in?are we wrong? Cheers

The local council where we are said they were happy to put us down for schools that had a place open. For the schools that are full they said they'll put us on their waiting list but once we’re at the address.

I'm sure once tenancy is confirmed you can put yourself on the list? It goes by the schools priorities for intake rather than when you got in touch so you could get in touch today and go all the way to first place on the waiting list.
