To be going crazy over this!? (Tw Pregnancy/test)

I just don’t know what’s going on and my GP has been zero help. I usually hate am I/ am I not pregnant posts.. this is my last resort before just wasting the hospitals time.

on day 56 (yes you read that right!) in my cycle. No sign of a period. Brown spotting for a few days around day 33 which would be when I usually have my period. So light didn’t need any sanitary products. I’ve spent a fortune on tests, tests from today & four days ago looks like this -

but surely if pregnant it would be more obvious than this by now?

my GP said give it another six weeks!

I am currently 22 months into breastfeeding, so my periods can be slightly unpredictable … but not like this. I also had a miscarriage in October, and have endo, but GP seems to think that is irrelevant.

I just feel like I’m going a bit mad and am starting to feel a bit miserable/like nobody is bothered about me.

so I guess:

YABU - chill out, give it the six weeks and don’t bother anyone.

YANBU - you need to see someone. Even if not pregnant this is weird

I'm not sure the hospital would be the right place for you?

I'm not going to say wether I think it's + or - as photos are notoriously difficult to tell from.

I think you have a couple options.
Take your GPs advice.
Speak to another GP.
Keep taking tests.

The only way you are going to know is by waiting I'm afraid.

Arghghghhhghggggg · 26/05/2023 17:20

My theory was go to EPU and beg for a blood test

but agree not the right place in reality

although I do think this picture is really quite representative of what it looks like IRL!

I think that’s positive tbf

Tygertiger · 26/05/2023 17:24

Ask your GP to test your hcg levels 72 hours apart.

Topee · 26/05/2023 17:24

Have you tried a pink dye test? I can’t remember why but I remember being told they were better (more reliable).

Gardenlady543 · 26/05/2023 17:25

@Arghghghhhghggggg if your gp won't do a beta then you'll have to organise it privately, you can order a couple of kits here www.medichecks.com/products/pregnancy-blood-test and take them 3 days apart and you'll get an indication of the beta level and if it's rising. I'm not that familiar with the brand of test you did, but it looks to be quite a light line. You could take some frer tests over the next few days and see if they show progression but the blood tests would give you the most objective answer. I can't see what EPU would do, unless you have concerning symptoms or know that ovulation was several weeks ago in which case a low beta could be concerning.

ChickenBurgers · 26/05/2023 17:27

To me it looks like it could be an early positive, however if your period was due 20 odd days ago I would agree I would expect it to be much clearer. At 5 days late with my middle son the pregnant line was darker than the control line, same with my youngest.

However, you could have fallen pregnant after your expected period date and it’s just early days if you ovulated really late randomly, which does happen. I’d keep testing and see what happens personally for the time being.

I hope you get whichever result you’re looking for x

ThatDamnedDog · 26/05/2023 17:28

Have you tried the clear view tests the ones that say pregnant/not pregnant then give an estimation of how many weeks pregnant you are?
I fully understand your frustration though 💐

PinkFootstool · 26/05/2023 17:30

Why not try the tests that literally say "pregnant" or "not pregnant" if these are unclear?

JD90 · 26/05/2023 17:32

So last year (and for absolutely no reason and had never happened before) I had an 89 day cycle. Unfortunately until you've missed 3 periods you aren't considered to be 'missing them'. So doctors won't look into anything before that point usually. Are you tracking ovulation? It's possible you had an annovulatory cycle and have since ovulated and are now pregnant. Personally I'd wait a few more days and test again. Unless you develop any concerning symptoms such as pain etc.

Nordicrain · 26/05/2023 17:35

Take a first response test or similar. As I recall the blue dye ones are notorious for false positives.

You could have ovulated late (due to BF) and falled pregnant only recently.

AlltheFs · 26/05/2023 17:36

This happened around the same time in to
extended breastfeeding to me. I think I was almost at 24 months. Randomly missed periods, very faint ‘positive’ test.
Wasn’t pregnant and it all came back to normal after 4 cycles. It was bloody weird though.

AlltheFs · 26/05/2023 17:38

Mine was just us ambiguous on a pink dye test too. Completely freaked me out.

SchoolShenanigans · 26/05/2023 17:39

I'd say it could either be a dodgy test, or it's early pregnancy.

No need for intervention until you get a clear positive pregnancy test. Having irregular periods is normal when breastfeeding and there's no reason to be concerned, beyond feeling impatiant about wanting to know if you're pregnant which is understandable.

Hold tight and you should have a clear answer in a week.

Arghghghhhghggggg · 26/05/2023 17:42

I feel like I should make clear - this was todays test.
I did one four days ago which looked more or less the same - instantly a faint positive looking line, but from a different brand.

I guess after having the mc in October I’m just a bit on edge in case the same happens.

wad really hoping it would be an obvious yes or no today - thought it would be more obvious four days later!

CreamTeaThievery · 26/05/2023 17:50

Can you get a few cheap ones and test every day or two until you period comes? Or as suggested the ones with the actual words.

Arghghghhhghggggg · 26/05/2023 17:53

The ones with the actual words is a great idea - feel a bit silly for not thinking of that. Thanks all

Just be aware they are a lot less sensitive so you can get false negatives in those quite easily. Which isn’t helpful!

Oh nooooo for goodness sake!

might resort to private blood test then but I do resent having to pay £50 haha

I would ask for a blood test

MargotBamborough · 27/05/2023 07:09

Hi OP.

Sorry you're in this situation, it's such a head fuck.

Veteran of recurrent miscarriages here. Get a First Response Early Result test, wait three days and then take it. You should get a clear result.

In my experience, if you are pregnant you should be getting a blazing positive by 14 days post ovulation. There should be no mistaking it.

If you are consistently getting faint positives that never get any darker it is probably a chemical pregnancy but if it persists for more than a week or so you should get two blood tests 48 hours apart because low and slow rising HCG can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. But I'd still expect a clear positive even then. That test is either showing an indent, or a very very low level of HCG (less than 50).

Gloopyhoop · 27/05/2023 07:42

Have you heard of the hook effect? If you were more than early pregnant, you would need to dilute your sample so the hormones were able to be picked up better. Apparently the further on you get the more likely you are to get a false negative or very faint positive.
I could be wrong of course and you could be early in or not at all. I hope you find out either way 💐

The hook effect is real, but you still get a very clear positive in my experience.

SparklyBlackKitten · 27/05/2023 07:48

I dont know what result you are looking for....
But just get a test that says pregnant vs the one with the lines.
Or get a blood test.
