Beach wagon thing on Ryanair?!

AIBU to try and take a beach wagon type thing (to pull stuff down the road to the beach on holiday) on a Ryanair flight and try to blag it as a buggy for my 4yo?! Has anybody done this? It is roughly buggy sized and to be fair my little one may well end up sitting in it in the airport 😄 I have only just bought it so don't want to end up abandoning it in the airport or paying a gezillion pounds for it to go in the hold...

I would absolutely doubt you could blag it as a buggy. If you want it pay for it as hold luggage. I assume it folds?

GladysHeeler · 26/05/2023 15:03

Does it fold like a buggy?

tumtitum · 26/05/2023 15:35

It folds kind of like a travel cot, similar size to a buggy with wheels poking out

I very much doubt they'll let you.

Ryanair let you check in two items of baby equipment. So you'd probably have to check it in and not take it with you to the plane.

westendgirl780 · 26/05/2023 15:47

I think it’d be fine if checked in in a bag as an item of baby equipment. You can get basic nylon bags on Amazon, for putting car seats etc in.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 26/05/2023 15:48

Not sure if a 4yo would qualify as a baby so might not be able to check it in as baby luggage. Maybe weigh it and see how much it would cost to take as luggage

LlynTegid · 26/05/2023 15:48

Don't take the chance I'd suggest.

Atishoos · 26/05/2023 15:49

Bring an old buggy and use that instead.

mollibu · 26/05/2023 15:49

I wouldn't risk it anyway, but I DEFINITELY wouldn't risk it on a Ryanair flight!

They would charge you for breathing the air on board if they could Grin

Nevermind31 · 26/05/2023 15:49

You might be able to take it as a travel cot, or put it in a bag and say it is a car seat.

Yes I was thinking bagged up like a travel cot it would class as baby equipment.

But easiest thing is to contact customer services and ask

With RyanAir who knows! They are a mysterious airline with rules that resembles no other airline. You could always check it in as special luggage, the say way you do with skiis, golf bags etc. You would have to pay for it though of course.

weebarra · 26/05/2023 16:21

I know exactly the sort of thing you mean. You could pass it off as a travel cot, but with Ryanair, who knows!!

tumtitum · 26/05/2023 21:05

I was wondering if I could check it as a child item but the website only talks about really young children and it's impossible to get through to customer service! Plus I was kind of hoping to use it for all their crap in the airport... let's see how brazen I am feeling tomorrow 😆

@tumtitum how did you get on? Flying in a few weeks with Ryanair and also questioning this.

Niamh12345 · 13/08/2023 05:46

How did you get on ? Same issue here thinking of bringing one on Ryanair flight..

alanrp42 · 30/01/2024 20:22

Look at the baggage regulations and see, if when packed, it fits with the weight and dimensions allowed. Looking at beach wagons on line I can't see how you could reasonably claim it was a child's buggy and get it in the hold for free.

tumtitum · 31/01/2024 18:33

Sorry I didn't update and just noticed a couple of people ask! We didn't take it in the end as it just felt too cumbersome to take on the train etc to the airport...

For the person asking how I could claim it as a buggy - it would quite easily fit in a buggy bag and people shove all sorts in there! Plus we would actually have been using it to transport our kids to/from the beach Smile
