I believe full crate rest is standard advice for IVDD. Have the vets not told you to do that? There are lots of breed specific IVDD groups on Facebook who give great advice.

I’d give them a ring back. They’ll have given you a recheck date assuming all is going ok in between. Crate rest! Or as close to. In the meantime. They can almost definitely add more pain relief if needed. Also they may be able to give you very light proprioceptive things to do. Please get back in touch with them even if it’s just for a chat.

I was fortunate that my dog didn’t need surgery after the mri. However she did do 6 weeks in a playpen so she couldn’t move around. She hated it but otherwise she would have been paralysed. She was carried out to the garden to go to the toilet on a lead. Then carried back in. I slept on a mattress on the floor with her on a lead next to me. We would sit with her in the playpen when she was distressed.

She recovered but it could happen again at any time. Proper rest and adequate pain relief are vital for healing.
