Have I just been ripped off?

i went to see a dentist in Poland to have a wisdom tooth removed and the bill was 900 pln which is around 200 euros. Is this expensive or normal for Poland? I hate to think I’ve been ripped off it just seems expensive. Does that price seem correct?

Last week I was quoted £500 to remove an impacted wisdom tooth at a private Dentist surgery. I politely declined.

FrownedUpon · 24/05/2023 12:18

I got it done for free at Kings College Hospital.

This is a very strange thread, if you are in Poland and needed dental care, then surely that is what you do.

Can’t see the logic of comparing apples with turnips.

What? I just wanted to know whether I had been ripped off or whether I should have got it done in another country. I had the choice of many countries and I thought I might as well get it done where I am living for convenience and (or so I thought ) a lower price. If you are going to be rude don’t bother posting

My uni student daughter could not register as an NHS patient at either our address or uni address ended up paying private 2 appointment 1 filling 1 xray £250.

How long did it take? If done under local and under half an hour I would say very expensive and likely ripped off. If you were in there over an hour/had sedation etc then maybe ok.

FernGully43 · 24/05/2023 13:40

Sounds normal to me.

blankittyblank · 24/05/2023 13:42

I also got my two done for free at an NHS hospital. Had to be referred by my dentist, and took about 4 months to get the appt.

It took around an hour for him to do x rays, remove the tooth (he had to crack it into bits and use a saw thing to take it away from the bone) and stitch it up. I had another impacted wisdom tooth removed in Russia which cost around 70 euros so I was shocked when he gave me the bill

€200 is probably cheaper than travel + UK treatment + accom + travel back to Poland.

I could have also had it out for free by a dental student but the waiting list was too long and the tooth was starting to become a nightmare because food kept getting stuck in there

That's fair enough. Mine we're not bothering me so was fine waiting a while. Would have had to pay if I had needed them done sooner.

Beautiful3 · 24/05/2023 14:02

I think that's okay. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. It's a a longer procedure because they're growing the wrong way. I hope you recover quickly. I couldn't brush my teeth for a few days, so used mouth spray. It really helped.

londonrach · 24/05/2023 14:07

You better asking someone in Poland re costs. I'm having a tooth removed free on NHS which isn't uncommon in UK. My pil paid £200 to see a private dentist in Belgium for pain so each country is different.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/05/2023 14:08

If they did a good job I'd be happy with that price. An impacted wisdom tooth is no joke and by the time you've factored in x-rays and possibly medication, I'm certain I would pay at least that at my private dentist.

amylou8 · 24/05/2023 14:32

It sounds like a bargain for a difficult extraction compared to what you'd pay privately in the UK. Of course if you could get it on the NHS it would have been free/cheaper, but that's a huge IF at the moment.

SOBplus · 24/05/2023 14:37

$900.00 in USA (East Coast so not low cost area)

HolidayHappy123 · 26/05/2023 09:12

Why does it matter? It's done now.
