Please revise this for grammar and clarity: On the 1st of July, I will be made redundant, which is exactly 30 days before my probation ends. I successfully passed the mid-probation review (3 months) with outstanding results. They have already informed me that they won't provide more notice than what is required during my probation (one week). When I was hired (I was poached), they added a signing bonus to the deal, to be awarded upon the successful completion of the probation period. From a legal perspective, can I still ask for the bonus as stated in my contract? Am I being unreasonable to expect them to pay it or for me to be entitled to it, considering they are making me redundant? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm extremely concerned about my finances and actively searching for any available jobs in the hopes of finding something quickly, but I'm worried. Thank you in advance.

I don't know the answer but your question is very clear. I would suggest quoting the precise wording re the bonus from your contract as this may make a difference.

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. I haven't seen your contract, therefore am going solely by the information you have given in your post. You mentioned that you are contractually entitled to a bonus upon successful completion of your probation. Your probationary period is 6 months and you are only at (or slightly over) 3 months' service. Although you are doing well in your role, literally speaking, you are not entitled to the signing on bonus, you are only eligible for it once the company have confirmed you have successfully completed your probationary period (at/ after 6 months). It's a real shame, but if that is how the contract is worded I can't see there being any leeway with it.

Do ensure that they pay you any owed, accrued holiday pay (if any) along with your notice pay. Hope you find another role soon.

I'm afraid you are not entitled to it under the law of England and Wales. If you are outside of England and Wales different laws will apply.

Thank you all, truly. The wording is very specific in that the bonus comes after passing probation:

“In addition, your first 6 months will be considered a probation period. During the probation period, the Company can give you 1 weeks’ notice if we feel the trial isn’t working out. The standard hours are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours total), with a 1-hour lunch break. Your starting salary will be £##,000 gross per annum, paid monthly on the last Friday of each month. You are eligible for a 10% discretionary bonus scheme. After successful probation, you will receive an one off payment of £#,000 in the following month’s salary payment which would be subject to normal payroll deductions.”

Thanks again, they really are a nasty bunch, a lucky escape one might say!

In UK, one has to be employed for two years to qualify for statutory redundancy entitlements.

Your probationary period has ended early. That doesn't match "successful completion of the probationary period" which was the condition to qualify for the bonus.
