Tell me about period pants please

I currently have a teenager living with me.

AIBU to know nothing about period pants? They didn't have them when I was younger.

Please tell me everything (ie, the best ones, do they REALLY keep you dry, do you get leaks, do you use sanitary products too, how long can you wear them between changes, do you wear them at night, how do you store dirty ones and how do you wash them etc etc)? Are there any negatives?

Thanks!

Best having a wee look through Google and read the reviews on them.

Dalekjastninerels · 21/05/2023 11:57

Gave them a try; they claimed to be for heavy flow so bought 2 pairs.

Sneezed and flooded them and my pyjamas (luckily not the sofa!) changed and put my usual pad on.

My teens use nothing else, they find them super convenient. We just put them straight in the wash with normal dark wash (we wash laundry nearly every day anyway). Just can't tumble dry them so either line dry or dry on radiators or in airing cupboard.

Generally they last them for a whole day of school without needing changing but presumably that would depend on heaviness of flow.

They've also used the swimwear ones under a normal swimming costume with no probs.

We've used Modibodi, Cheeky and Wuka ones, all good. Never used cheaper ones eg Primark so I don't know how they compare.

What's with all the posts about sanitary products?!

WordtoYoMumma · 21/05/2023 12:19

My daughter uses the ones from M&S. She really likes them. We just wash along with everything else.

Evaka · 21/05/2023 12:26

I use the luna/super drug heavy flow ones for day 3 onwards. Day 1 and 2 are a bloodbath so I use a mooncup with period pants for backup at the start. Important to test run/experiment and see what works before striding out for the day and risk a hot mess.

I posted this one after having seen the others!

Yeah they're good. Try m&s

Lcb123 · 21/05/2023 21:51

I have M&S ones, I change as needed (you can tell), rinse out and then just put in a dark wash. They do take a while to dry.

Lcb123 · 21/05/2023 21:52

Agree with PP to try out whilst at home.

Jonniecomelately · 21/05/2023 21:59

I do a 15 min cold rinse cycle and then add in rest of washing. My daughter loves them.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 21/05/2023 22:06

My DD15 has never used anything else.
She has Wuka ones in normal, heavy amd super heavy. She has heavy first 2 days so wears super heavy and uses 2 pairs a day and one more over night. Never had a leak. She puts the dirty pair in a cloth bag in her school bag to bring home. Once she hits day 3 she can go a whole day in one pair.
I rinse in cold water (if there's a lot of blood) and then put in the dark wash with everything else.
They take ages to dry so you do need a good quantity of pairs. They are expensive but compared to disposable pads etc will probably work out cheaper.
So much better for the planet too.

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 21/05/2023 22:15

I have several styles of the Cheeky Wipes ones. Wouldn't go back to single use. They have been brilliant even with lochia after birth. Lots of different styles and levels of protection. You can also use reusable pads with them so changing in the day is easier, just take the pad off and use the pants half way through the day. But they are also great for preventing leaks

snoozingbaby1476 · 21/05/2023 22:17

I've used cheeky pants. They are brilliant. Totally changed my periods & so much more comfortable.

Is it worth JUST getting super heavy ones?

Snowdropsarelovely · 21/05/2023 22:19

My DD has a very heavy flow. Tried cheeky wipes, Luna, primark. But finds modibodi the best by far - she uses the ones for heavy flow and they last overnight or for a school day. Rinses in cold water then in a normal dark wash. She's had some pairs for 3 years and they are still absorbent

I came to warn people off the M&S ones. They are great at first glance/wear but the seams are revealing down on mine after juts a few weeks (I wear them every day though) - poor quality

Ravelling Blush

Tigofigo · 21/05/2023 22:28

I have Cheeky ones but they don't last long during heavier part of cycle. I usually use them alongside pads or tampons for the first 24 hours otherwise I'd need to change them every couple of hours. And I wouldn't consider my flow heavy.

Makegoodchoices · 21/05/2023 22:30

Got lots of M&S ones. Just rinse with cold water and chuck in the normal wash after. Have yet to have a leak issue, they’re brilliant.

Blip · 21/05/2023 22:33

Absolute game changer, way more comfortable and easy than anything else. In our house we have Modibodi and Love Luna. Leaking hasn't been an issue.

Same. My teens use them and so do I.

Daughter has heavy periods under a gynaecologist and 16 started at 15 very slim build - I invested with a discount code in a sale for 7 pairs of mondi bodi ones - they are great - she has black pairs and heavy duty ones - never changes in the school day - pair before school, pair during school, change when she gets home at 4.30 and changes at bedtime - she rinses them on a 15 minute quick wash in the machine and then pegs them out to dry - they are a god send - we don’t normally wash until we get a full load and I was so impressed after 12 months of full use that I bought her some more and some M and S ones for me - they are just the norm here. Saved a fortune in san pro as I used to get through £5 a month on decent towels along I bought the m and a ones in the sale 3 pairs for the price of 2 thing in the Christmas sale and haven’t looked back.

I can highly recommend mondi bodi and they do swimwear for the summer. They seem expensive but wait for a sale and get a referral from a friend. Wonderful

saltandpepper86 · 21/05/2023 22:36

Mine are from primark and matalan I have some medium and some heavy but can't tell the difference between them, I use them with a night time pad on day 1 and 2 and then alone after that. Thay are great for putting on for the day you are due on ie incase you come on unexpectedly when you aren't on the loo!

My only negative is they never smell fresh and clean after the wash but someone has told me tgow to resolve that ninja the other thread (put some bicarb in the wash too)

Tbh I need to invest in some of the heavy duty more pricey ones but they're never a priority on payday!
