How to you prepare for awful week of work ahead?!

Ive got a crazy week of work coming up, 4 day outdoor event, long days, it’s going to be a warm weather by the looks of it, can’t help feel nervous about it all, think I’m going to be absolutely exhausted . How would you prepare and cope with it?

One day at a time. One hour at a time if you have to.
when I have a tricky week I prepare as much as I can in advance to make it easy to look after myself. Pre-make lunch, get water bottles in my bag, snacks, comfy shoes.

Hope it goes ok

I used to worry about work if I knew I'd got a busy week. What helped me is to remind myself that most of the time it's not as bad, people might not attend, meaning I get more breaks. Or I might make sure life outside work is really low-demand like prep my food for the week or buy in some quick food. Also schedule down time for after!
But the nervousness was helped by reminding myself that it didn't usually end up being as busy as it looked in my calendar.

Lists!

Are you in charge of any particular part?
Do you have to delegate or manage other members of your team?
Is there a priority of ABC must be done, XYZ can wait?

I try to run the day in my head and think of anything that might cause a problem.

If you need to bring supplies e.g. food, rain jacket etc, pack them today.

If you get organised this morning it won't be hanging over you for the rest of today

Prepare everything I need for the week, all outfits, meal prep etc. Then get myself in the zone mentally, approach it as a challenge, know I'll be tired but will fine. Make sure I keep the following weekend quiet so have time for recovery and maybe book in a days Flexi or leave in the next few weeks to look forward to.

Thank you, all great advice, I can feel myself feeling stressed and worked up about it already ☹️

Ignore it as much as possible... can't really recommend that! Try to have things ready for the first morning at least.

Singleandproud · 21/05/2023 07:59

Prepare everything you can for yourself and children / enlist help from your partner.

Overnight oats so breakfast is sorted
Pasta salad lasts a few days for lunches
Batch cook dinners for reheating or have stir fry which are quick.
Water bottles in the freezer so they are cold
All of your outfits ready.

Work bag prepared, Inc extra medication you might not normally need so paracetamol, sun cream, bug spray, plasters if your outdoor days require lots of walking.

Early nights when you get home, avoid the temptation to stay up late for 'me' time as you'll regret it in the morning.

Usually gin and trying not to think about it until the last possible minute.

I think I’m extra worried because I’m not feeling 100% and I’m concerned I won’t get through the whole event, I can’t let the team down so I need to be there but what happens if I’m feeling more unwell later in the week? Feel like I’m putting lots of pressure on myself.

batch cook some meals today ready for this week. I had the week from hell last week, new big boss putting unreasonable demands on my boss and I. It was horrendous. I ate cereal every evening - worked until 11pm, even working at 4am. It was really awful

I’d probably just put through unless I was half dying, as I hate letting people down but I guess depends how sick I was

YukoandHiro · 21/05/2023 08:04

Always remember: "I've only got to get through the next five minutes". Ground yourself in the present.

What makes you think this? Are you already unwell? Or do you suffer with health anxiety?

BCBird · 21/05/2023 08:05

Defo.make sure there very little effort needed when you get home. If there is someone else there can they take control of post work life, meals etc? If not then organise so nutritious ready made stuu, even if thst means buying it prepared. Treat urself to some me time, bath, long shower etc each night. For the day,no foubt it will be fine, delegate, prepare like you going on a long hime and may need loads of supplies. Hope it goes well,is enjoyable too.

C1239 · 21/05/2023 08:07

Thank you everyone, this is really kind advice. The event is a massive deal to the company, a lot rests on it and I think I’m just letting the pressure get to me.

That sounds awful @Zanatdy , well done for getting through the week, how did you keep going through the tough bits?!

I always found that the things I was really worried about at work were not as horrible as I anticipated. These hardly ever went wrong - it was the unexpected stuff that went wrong!

C1239 · 21/05/2023 08:07

@YukoandHiro im already not feeling 100% and I think I’m feeling worse because of the pressure

I would get everything you need ready now and then go and do something nice for the day. I have an awful week ahead too, just about to do the ironing and get bags and clothes ready for the week. Then we are going out for a big long walk, plan to be home at tea time and hopefully will be exhausted so will sleep well. We always try and have a full day out of the house on Sunday as I get annoyed with myself for thinking about work which I do when I am at home. Hope your week goes ok.

I just had to plough on through - my boss was great and we were a great team. Her boss is hideous and caused us so much stress

C1239 · 21/05/2023 21:31

Good luck for your week @Muddypaws20 and thank you everyone for your replies, I ll try and keep positive and do the best I can!
