Posted in AIBU as I wanted the voting buttons.
We bought some nice bread from a bakery yesterday, bit of a treat for us. I cut some for my son's dinner and left it on the side. Husband came in a few mins later and says there's an ant on it and we should bin the rest of it.

The ant was from our kitchen sadly we have been finding 1 or 2 a day for a couple of days and are working on it, so the bakery is fine. He thinks they will have passed some bacteria or something on to it and we shouldn't eat it. I'm also pregnant so perhaps he's being a little over cautious?

I haven't had a slice yet and am disappointed I might not get one! Haha.

YABU- it's gross bin it and move on you cant eat that now
YANBU-its fine it was one ant for like a minute don't waste a perfectly good loaf

I think the solution is that anyone who is comfortable can eat it but your DH and anyone else who fears the ant poo or whatever doesnt

Yes this is a known problem, he does have OCD and is working on it and has had a flare up because I'm pregnant he worries more about germs etc. Most of the time I can reassure him with common sense but this time I wasn't sure so good to know that my reaction is the normal one. When living with someone so hypersensitive to this stuff you can start to question some things

There are bacteria on every surface, fungal spores in the air. One tiny ant isn't going to make any difference.

Your digestive system is designed to deal with such things. Your stomach contains hydrochloric acid to dissolve food and any bacteria on it. You'll be fine. 😊

Ant poo on bread and spider willies on the washing after being darked on. I love MN Grin

I'd eat it. All the more bread for you!

A single ant wandering about, fine. I would draw the line at a big swarm though.

isthismylifenow · 21/05/2023 07:44

Of course I'd eat in. It's one ant.
An alive walking one at that.

I went to boarding school though. Not unusual to get a foreign item in your food. I'm have the brush it off and carry on attitude.

I wouldn’t but I realise that’s silly, I’m just so squeamish about insects
