Would you think this weird ?

I attend a swimming related class a few times a week. Whole group head for showers at same when class ends (together with some people not in the class). Most of the shower cubicles at my gym have no door. If I brought my own shower curtain and a couple of clothes pegs with me to use to avoid the queue for the couple of cubicles with a door, would you think I was very odd ? Hanging a towel over the rail does not give much privacy.

Not at all

princessconsuelobananahammock · 20/05/2023 21:21

I’d think you were a genius!

dudsville · 20/05/2023 21:22

I would just think you like your privacy and i would feel inspired to look after my own needs as well. I know that sounds hokey but i honestly wouldn't think negatively of you. I would be curious as to how you manage afterward to get it down and packed away without leaking water everywhere though.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 20/05/2023 21:32

No. In fact I'd steal your idea.

Sissynova · 20/05/2023 21:33

I would.
If you want a private shower do it at home.

Professionallytorn · 20/05/2023 21:35

I take a carrier bag for my wet swimsuit so would pop in there. Don't know how drippy it would be until i try it, the cubicles are fairly deep, so hopefully not too awful 🤞 😆

I don't always go straight home

I would think you were mad but it's not a reason not to do it!

BigUpTheOxfordComma · 21/05/2023 07:42

I'd applaud your resourcefulness!

Wanting a bit more privacy is entirely reasonable.

tuvamoodyson · 21/05/2023 07:50

Brilliant idea!!

YukoandHiro · 21/05/2023 07:53

Assuming these are single sex showers (in the traditional sense; let's not derail from the Q the OP is asking), I would think fair enough but how sad you feel so uncomfortable with normal nakedness

JandalsAlways · 21/05/2023 08:06

I think it depends on why it has no door. I assume many don't so people use these ones quickly in which case you're then creating a blockage potentially as then one shower is effectively 'out of order'.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2023 08:19

I'd think you were a bit mad but I'd admire you for it.

ThisIsntMyUsualUsername · 21/05/2023 08:23

I'd be going straight home to tell DH some genius woman took her own shower curtain to the pool. We would both marvel at your resourcefulness as it would be something I would have moaned about for months (if i was fitness minded and had a need to shower after a pool session).

Redebs · 21/05/2023 08:25

Brilliant idea

PoorMegHopkins · 21/05/2023 08:37

I’d be impressed. I’d go home and find myself a shower curtain for the next session.
Clearly lots of people want privacy- hence the queue for the ones with doors. I think you might start a trend.

Pinkywoo · 21/05/2023 09:16

I'd be straight on Amazon to buy my own curtain!

Doggymummar · 21/05/2023 09:18

Great idea, but don't you just shower over your costume anyway? I wouldn't be getting naked in a shower.

milkysmum · 21/05/2023 09:22

I'd just have a quick shower in my swimming costume, I thought this was pretty normal?
My gym has these showers with no curtain though and I shower at home for this reason.

Hermanfromguesswho · 21/05/2023 09:28

I’d think you were bonkers. Why don’t you shower in your swimming costume instead?!

Missedmytoe · 21/05/2023 09:30

That was what I was thinking.
My DC used to attend a regular swim class and as they exited the pool there were three shower heads on the wall (warm water). Nearly everyone got under the water quickly, rinsed off, and occasionally did a very quick hair wash- wearing their swimwear. They'd then dry and dress in the changing room.
Some new kids joined and the parents would insist that the kids stripped off, had full showers, shampoo, conditioner and god knows what else shower products, all the while trying to hold up towels to have some privacy. In the case of the kids class, this became a real issue.
OP, your situation sounds a little different- would it not be possible to speak to whoever owns/runs the facility to ask them to install more doors or some curtains on the cubicles?

Prettylittleroses · 21/05/2023 09:30

I’d copy you and be impressed

Saracen · 21/05/2023 09:38

Seems a very sensible plan!

Thehonestybox · 21/05/2023 09:48

I think it would go someway into hinting to to the owners that they should install curtains or doors! I'm not so obsessive about changing in front of other people, but you're just so exposed when you're showering. And this is England, we can't help being a bit victorian still!

Professionallytorn · 21/05/2023 20:43

The showers are on the walkway as you enter to go to the changing rooms, so everyone has to walk past them, they are also in part view of the main changing area. It feels very public and exposed. I don't feel properly clean rinsing off with my swimsuit on.
