To think it is impossible to find a natural red hair dye box colour these days?

Don't have money for hair colour at the hairdresser so went to a big branch of Boots, a large Superdrug, major supermarkets etc and can't find anything decent. I don't want fire engine red hair or any variant of those really unnatural colours. I also don't want copper hair so orange it looks like the glowing top of a Belisha beacon! What is wrong with the manufacturers? I used to be able to buy a nice golden copper from Loreal Excellence, Garnier Belle Colour did perhaps the best copper gold I ever used in my life but stopped making it so had to move on to an Essence colour which was called cinnamon and was really beautiful and natural. If I was a brunette or a blonde, there are a vast number of variants to choose from but as a redhead? I find it daft that as the British Isles has one of the largest concentrations of natural redheads in the world that we aren't catered for. I can't be the only redhead wanting to cover up a bit of silver (we don't turn 'grey' as such)?! Why can't they cater for us too?

Take a look at the French Amazon site as quite a few colours that have been discontinued in the UK are still available in France.

I completely agree with you. I have struggled with this for years!. My roots are very very white. If I use a red dye my roots go dark pink, if I use a more copper one, my roots go bright orange, Most box colours make my hair very brassy and none appear to look very natural. I am currently using loreal excellence natural golden brown. Which sounds nothing like my actual colour, however it covers my roots nicely and after a couple of washes my hair has reverted to it's normal auburn colour.

Yes, they used to do a ten minute one that turned out very pretty on my hair but stopped making it. I mean I hate dyeing my hair but 10 minutes was like a blessing from above with a really lovely colour at the end of it too!

I just don't understand why manufacturers have chosen to overlook us or not bring out some of their subtle old colours back. I really don't want any shade of cranberry/fire engine/tomato red! Loreal Excellence brought out a range for greying hair and it is great if you are a brunette or a blonde but absolutely no red shades in it at all. I won't ever be as fiery as I was again so need something subtle like a bronze shade or a cinnamon shade so I keep my red but don't look OTT.

I will look that up - thank you for the heads up.

Have you looked at esalon? I haven't used them personally but I've seen a lot of good reviews.
