Sanitary towels TMI

I'm pissed off that sanitary towels and pantyliners give just middle gusset coverage if small and then extra coverage at the back if large. I don't know if I have something anatomically unusual about me, or if the companies never do any market research. But whatever comes out of my vag migrates forwards and gets deposited at the front and I've ruined lot of pants that way because pads don't reach far enough. If I wear a night pad the extra coverage at the back always stays clean because if I'm bleeding heavy enough for it to run down my arse and come out the back, the front would have been saturated ages ago and I would have already changed. Right now I'm using pessaries which leak, and I'm using liners but I have to place them right at the front and the curved back of it is right in the middle of the gusset and scratches me. Anyone else pissed off about this or am I the only one whose body works like this?

long, overnight, unscented with one far forward, one towards the back and a double thickness in the middle where they overlap.

That’s the only think that works for me. I do the same with washable pads as I’m not convinced period pants are all that healthy.

Bodyform or boots own are the ones I use now.

GeekyThings · 20/05/2023 11:21

There nothing unusual about you, the pads are really stupid. Gussets are stupid, they're in the wrong place, you can tell by where the discharge comes out on them. Period knickers are the way forward, especially for nighttime.

I think underwear manufacturers need to learn some basic biology.

zingally · 20/05/2023 11:25

One of the many reasons I made the switch to tampons - a game changer!

GreenIsle · 20/05/2023 11:26

I'm the same it sort of stays on until I stand up then floods forwards and then there's no hope. This started after having children, You would think all those companies would know this with all their supposed research.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 20/05/2023 11:32

Fortunately I don't have this problem any more - hysterectomy in 2020. But prior to that I was having the most horrendous heavy and long periods. I used to buy Kotex big fat towels from B&M or similar and just use two back to front. I think they were only a £ or so too. A mooncup was good as well but I did have to empty it every hour or so sometimes.

Beseen22 · 20/05/2023 11:35

I think sanitary towels are the worst. They have done all these advancements to add absorbant chemicals and scented crap in right beside your vulva but the only ones I can stand to wear are the old fashioned thick, cotton only ones that you get from hospital. It's so hard to get ones without heaps of stuff added in and any of the blue gel absorbant ones just feels like I'm wearing sandpaper all day. I don't have a continual flow, I flood so they can't absorb quick enough so they just don't work for me. Menstrual cup for life.

When I had a MC I sent my DH to get some. He spent 25 minutes stressed trying to choose and eventually came home with night time lavender scented pads. It was the only thing that made me laugh at that time putting something that smelled like Yardly bath salts in my pants.

Goodoccasionallypoor · 20/05/2023 11:37

Agree that period pants are the answer to this. I started out with 3 pairs of Modibodis and then bought 2 more the following month.

I hate wearing pads or tampons now but washing the pants is something to think about - I find it tricky if I'm away from home.

pensionconfusion · 20/05/2023 11:40

Wear two at a time. One higher at the front and the other higher at the back then they overlap in the middle. It's the only way I can cope at night.

HadleyVaughn · 20/05/2023 11:48

The Bodyform range is non scented.

thank you very useful info.

I hate all these scented ones. I think I'm allergic to something in it.

Barbie222 · 20/05/2023 11:54

Period pants - they are a game changer!!

Gcsunnyside23 · 20/05/2023 12:01

Can I ask about period pants. so I have crazy amounts of clots and severe heavy periods, will these work for me? I'm sick of leaking and worrying in work meetings that I'm going to be covered when I stand up

IAteAllTheTomatoes · 20/05/2023 12:23

Period pants are brilliant. I have endo and very heavy periods bt neverchad a leak with them. Still would chance them with white clothes just in case.

OP, is you still want to use pads, try this way.

Same. Switched to heavy duty period pants. Absolute game changer. I used to have to wear 2 massive pads at night almost like a nappy and would still leak.

On my heaviest days if I’m going out I often use a cloth pad in addition to my period underwear - not because I’m worried about leaks but mainly in case of clots, it means I can remove it half way through the day and have the underwear for the rest of the time. You might benefit from that method if you’re worried, to build confidence. Clots aren’t absorbed which is why I use a pad but at a pinch can also be wiped off with toilet tissue.
The underwear is really absorbent though, over time you get not confident with it. I have a pair of shorts from Cheeky Wipes that I wear on the heaviest night, they are brilliant and never any leaks

springtome · 20/05/2023 16:13

This is me too! I use long pads but put them backwards so the back goes up the front and even then I sometimes leak. I was thinking there was something wrong with me so good to know I'm not alone.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 20/05/2023 11:07

Period pants , honestly I’m 41 and I wish I started using them earlier .

Me too, wish they'd been around since I started my periods!

OP, I'm the same as you, I get round it by using period pants with a pad, I just had to hunt for ones that continued the period gusset bit at the front - a lot only have it underneath and up the back (hope that makes sense! )

eyesfullofstars · 20/05/2023 16:30

I just wear the long ones back to front. I’ve bought a menstrual cup recently as well but haven’t tried it yet. I’m hoping that will mean less leaks overall.

Upsizer · 20/05/2023 16:31

Oh - my tribe! I have Houdini periods and it doesn’t matter if I put the pad at the front or back - it will find a way to escape.

I agree about the period pants but it’s hard to find full coverage ones of those as well - most seem to also be gusset only! I wear a pad with period pants too because my periods are too floody/clotty and it would be like sitting around in warm stew all day.

Anon9898 · 20/05/2023 16:52

I had to wear 2 at a time. I still had leaks. Now on medication for endometriosis and adenomyosis

Redlarge · 20/05/2023 16:53

Make a t shape with 2 pads. One to go accross the.bum area
Life changing

SpacePotato · 20/05/2023 17:07

Bodyform pads are scented or have irritants despite saying they are fragrance free.
I used to use the pink ones until they changed them a few years ago to 'fresh feeling' or whatever.

They then brought out the allergen free 'pure' ones in a white pack which were great but got discontinued after a year everywhere except from ocardo.

Ended up bulk buying lilets from amazon which are definitely unscented.

CheersForThatEh · 20/05/2023 17:18

Have a look for reusable products using the term "front bleeder" and you'll find products targeted to you. X

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 20/05/2023 17:21

Always infinity are brilliant, non scented and do not leak, long enough and well worth trying.

BookishBabe · 20/05/2023 17:21

I also wear 2.
One quite far back, one quite far forward and they overlap in the middle. Day 2 on my period is so horrendous I have to change them every hours or so.

Onlinetherapist · 20/05/2023 17:23

Wear back to front?
