I am trying to keep the wording of this post fairly vague, as I guess it could be quite identifying. Hopefully it won't sound too strange!
Anyway, I work in a sort of unit inside a high school. The kids come to us if they're having difficulty self-regulating in class, if they're anxious, if they're being challenging. You get the picture.
One particularly challenging young person - the most challenging I have ever come across - has formed a bond with me. It hasn't always been easy, but my approach of unconditional positive regard has paid off (they will immediately switch off from someone who they feel doesn't like them), and I am fond of them and genuinely want to help. Particularly as their days in mainstream could be numbered.
A couple of times recently, they have refused to return to class unless I go with them. I've done this, as requested by my boss. But they're so disengaged in the lessons - and always has been - that is hard to get them to do anything at all.
I mentioned to the Head about accompanying them to a lesson, when she asked me in passing how my day had been. She then made a joke about me picking up an extra qualification in that subject, as I could be going to the lessons so often Confused
Thing is, I took this job (a few months ago) as I no longer wanted to be an in-class TA. Years of working with, and supporting, the same children all day had left me feeling a bit bored and unfulfilled. Don't get me wrong, I always made a positive difference to the children, but had to think of myself and my own career too. My current post allows me to work with several children, in a non-classroom setting.
Am I being unreasonable to see where this is going, and to have a heart-sinking feeling about it?

To clarify, I think me being there in class with this pupil may stop them disrupting the whole lesson, which would satisfy the teachers and management.
