How often do you bathe your kids?

Finally got a call today to say there’s space in a class for DD to start swimming. Except the class is on our only free week day evening. I’m trying to get it all sorted out in my head, but between football/dance/swimming/cubs, there’s only time to put them in a bath or shower twice a week now. Is this too little? They jump in the shower after swimming, but it’s always a crush and it’s too much to wash long hair etc so it’s just a rinse not a full clean.

Two children, both primary school age, is two baths or showers a week enough?

Sometimes the shower is busy in the morning and it’s easier to use the sink in the bathroom. Sometimes the shrieking of “nooooo not my hair” is too much to bear so the sink is easier. Sometimes I don’t like hearing the shower running £££ down the drain for 15 mins and a small sink of water is less water wastage.

Yeah I guess I can see those scenarios - though I don't take it for granted that all children will moan about using the shower. And I wasn't envisioning a 15 minute shower each either, literally dipping under for 30 seconds sounds like it would be more efficient than splashing your bits in the sink.

Maybe this is why my 3 year old is always complimented by his teachers for smelling nice 😆

Twice a week washing after all that activity is grim sorry. Although I bathe my kids every morning before school, I don't believe you have to bathe young kids everyday. However, if they are more active than most, every other day is the least I would consider. Both DC swim twice a week and will have a short shower afterwards.

So many posters thinking they know better than the OP on her DC’s personal hygiene.

Seems funny reading some of these comments when I had a weekly bath as a child as did most people I knew. Sunday night was bath night.

my DC usually have a bath anything from 2 a week to 4 times depending on activities or if they get more dirty. On saying that if they don’t bath they always have a good wash before bed.

Erm, my dc does an activity every day in the week, why on earth do you have no time?! A quick shower takes minutes tops?!

You are British right? The British used to be known for being a bit BO-y and not washing much. Rewearing unwashed clothes. Just a bit rank tbh. Not now I don't think but definitely when I was young in the 70s and 80s. Always found it ironic that the British would always act superior whilst people in Asia and parts of Eastern Europe just thought the British were unclean

How old are you? I’m gobsmacked you only had weekly baths, I’m nearly 60 and we were bathed daily.

Quite a bit younger than you. And yes one bath on a Sunday night.
we all come from different backgrounds some DC don’t even get that.

SmurfHaribos · 20/05/2023 23:08

Twice a week is perfect. Healthy and better for the skin and hair.

Ditto. I’m over 50 and we had a daily bath from as long as I can remember.

Actually only had a shower installed when I was in secondary school and my dad got a bit water conscious and started telling us showers rather than baths but either way it was at least daily and twice a day if I was going out in the evening

I said you're being unreasonable because you've got your kids in too many activities. Twice a week bath is plenty for little kids unless they get dirty or sweaty, or don't know how to wipe themselves properly after pooping, then more.

My children only had one or two things going on besides school and then they had spare time to just be. Things they did after school and on weekends: chores, help with meals, setting the table, feeding the dogs, walking the dogs, go grocery shopping with mom or dad and help put things away. Have a friend over to play. Learn how to make their bed, change out their bedding, empty the dishwasher. Read a book. Play Mario Kart. Play board games. Just time together without running around like crazy people going to this that and the other thing.

Head lice isn't from not bathing.

My kid's derm recommended not bathing daily as it would strip the skin of natural oils....two of my kids have eczema plus one has very dry skin.....The amount of time spent slathering on lotions and potions and steroid concoctions after a bath made it once a week when they were little.

Now that they're teens and responsible for their own routines, they all take showers about every other day, hair about twice a week.
