Workmen at 9.15pm

Does anyone know the rules on workmen digging up roads and pavements and at what time it is considered unreasonable? At 9.15pm last night three loud workmen with a huge lorry and a compacting machine were tarmacing the pavement directly outside my bedroom window. Surely this can't be right, it was very almost dark!

I've name changed as I've put this on the village Facebook group.

I know I'm not being unreasonable but posting for traffic.

Thanks

@SooninBrisbane i know yeah, but then we don’t know what time she gets up or if she was shattered and needed an early night

When they were cabling the roads round here for Virgin, they worked till 9pm or thereabouts, 7 days a week. It took a few weeks, too, and damn near drove me mad. As well as the noise, they had these mega-bright lights up where they were working, and even with the curtains closed, the light got round the sides of them and was almost bright enough to read by.

I tried complaining to the council, but was told there are special provisions for telecomms, and that they can basically do what they like. It must have been dreaful for anyone with young kids kept awake long past bedtime, night after night.

The workmen, mostly Polish, were actually lovely, really polite, and pretty considerate, but they were contracted to do the work by a deadline so they had to crack on with it. They finally finished and packed up on 23 December and it was such a relief, I wouldn't have been if the whole neighbourhood had burst into spontaneous cheering.

It's 8pm here. Perhaps posters live in a particularly noisy place, but it is unreasonable (and against some LA policies) to do such work after 6/8pm, unless an emergency. It protects workers rights as well. We've got new builds going up in my area and the site bosses have tried to start earlier and earlier and finish later. It's a cost cutting exercise because they don't want to take on as many as they really need and are pushing the working hours. These policies protect everyone.

To answer the questions, I get up at 5am on weekdays as I need to be at work for 6.45pm and I have a commute. By Thursday I'm knackered. Friday is a bit of a daze and I catch up with sleep at weekends.

I'm 52 so menopausal and knackered. Sorry for being a bit grumpy that workmen (who were only carrying out instructions) were using heavy plant outside my bedroom when I was trying to get an early night.

Sorry for being agitated by the posters who are unable to read a simple question and respond nicely without judging.

Have a nice day everyone. I hope your day is free of heavy duty tarmac compactors and huge lorries.
