To think this is a bit inconsiderate or am I being really grumpy?

We have a cleaner who comes once a week. Recently she changed this to Fridays and I don’t mind this but I don’t work Fridays.

So today she turned up at half seven in the morning. Is it just me or is this a bit - not quite the done thing. I mean, me and kids were still in pyjamas and then feeling like slobs as she’s cleaning …

At that end of her shift maybe say -

Thanks so much for today. It was a bit of an early start so in future can we say any time between 9am and 5pm?

burnoutbabe · 19/05/2023 08:51

In the dats I was out of the house working the cleaner could come any time between say 8-6.

But now I work from home they always give and we agree a time. So I don't organise zoom calls or meetings at sane time (as either go out when they are there or work in bedroom in bed)

So yes 7.30 is far too early! They'd find me in bed since lockdown (as work starts 9am so can get up 8.45 if I really push it)

That would not work for me

Before my cleaner comes, i like to tidy up, empty dishwasher as otherwise she will do those things and take up time

Always agree a time with my cleaner so me and kids can be out the way

What did she say when you talked to her about it OP?

I'm not being a nasty spiteful little twat thank you very much. I'm merely pointing out that instead of starting a thread the most logical thing to do is actually talk to your cleaner. Starting a thread she won't see won't actually solve the blooming problem.

Go downstairs now and explain to her that in further Fridays don't work for you and that whilst you're happy for her to be flexible in when she cleans it cannot be before 9am. She will say ok and the problem will be resolved.

Absolutely this is the only answer surely?

OP you’re the paying customer you tell her what day she needs to work for you and that this current scenario doesn’t work for you so she needs to change her day and/or time.

Maybe — just maybe — the OP wanted to sound people out (as per her original question) regarding whether or not she was being reasonable BEFORE she spoke to her cleaner. I kind of thought that was the point of AIBU…
