Birthday party

It’s my DS birthday party this weekend. It’s his first real ‘big party’ and he is very exited. We’ve hired a hall, paid a children’s entertainer and have already purchased most of the supplies ie food, decorations, made up party bags.

However, yesterday, we woke up with runny noses and coughs. Today we are full of the cold, we have covid tested and are negative. We will continue to test daily as if it was covid, we would cancel party immediately without hesitation. My question is, is it ok to continue with the party and potentially spread a cold to guests or should we cancel last minute and lose hundreds of pounds and have a very disappointed DS?

YABU cancel the party, no one wants to get sick
YANBU go ahead as planned

I wouldn't cancel for a mild cold.

HazyDragon · 18/05/2023 22:36

I can't think why you would even consider cancelling.

TeaKitten · 18/05/2023 22:40

It would be ridiculous to cancel because of a cold.

It’s a kids birthday party - he won’t be the only one there with a bug. Kids constantly have something! Plus I’m sure he mixes with most of the children regularly at school etc anyway so they’ll probably get it anyway? Plenty of calpol and plough on.

It's not 2020 anymore. Cop on!

Kitkatcatflap · 18/05/2023 22:42

I guarantee that more than one guest will have the same.

Enjoy the party

Wouldn’t even cross my mind…it’s going to be one huge bubbling mixtures of kids germs anyway 😂

People can pick up colds everywhere. Wash your hands a lot. Don’t cough and sneeze over people.

AliceMcK · 18/05/2023 22:47

STOP TESTING! No one care any more, and I’m saying that as someone who is immune compromised so would get very sick. I’d not stop my children going to a party with a sick child, I’d just take extra precautions for myself, lots of hand cleaning etc… If your in a position to let parents know said child had a cold great but not necessary.

The weekend may as well be next month in the world of sick children. Take Friday off school, if not possible early bedtimes, lots of fluids, tissues vics vapour rub (rub on child’s feet at night) and paracetamol. Antihistamines are also great to stop the bung.

Come the party there will be hardly anything to worry about x

Thank you all for the re-assurance. I will continue to go ahead as planned :) I do tend to overthink these things and didn’t want anybody getting annoyed with us for catching it. Thanks again
