Aibu to think this is going to make me look incompetent when I’m not?

Headteacher of a primary school. I’m taking 19 students with 3 colleagues (so 4 staff including me) to Denmark tomorrow. I was absolutely sure I had everything I needed ready for tomorrow. Us staff have to be at school for 3am as it’s an early start and the children there for 4:30am so we can get away for 5am hopefully. This means we won’t be going into the main school as we will be using the canteen which is accessible from the main road (the same door used by parents when picking children up from after school club as reception is not used for this) and then boarding the coach. I thought I had everything ready, brought some stuff home (will take it with me know the morning) and left some stuff in the canteen at school ready for tomorrow morning. I’ve just realised I’ve left my school IPad in my office at school and now I’m worried there is something else I’ve forgot as well, I’ve double checked everything I have here at home and can’t think of anything else I’ve forgot besides my IPad and I’ll double check everything in the canteen tomorrow morning to make sure I’ve not left anything else behind. This is going to make me look incompetent and disorganised now. I pride myself on being organised but now the fact I’ve left my school IPad in my office at school is making me worry there’s also something I’ve left too but I can’t think what it is. I can manage without my school Ipad if I have to but I’m sure there’s something else I’ve left too but I can’t think what it is and I’ve doubled checked everything here at home and will double check everything in the canteen tomorrow morning but I’m sure there’s something else I haven’t brought home that i thought I had brought home ready for tomorrow, I can’t think what it is but I’m worried there’s something else as well as the IPad now. I know it’s my fault (about forgetting the IPad and anything else I’ve forgot that I can’t think of) but AIBU to think this is going to make me look incompetent when I’m not? I’m normally really good with being organised and I’ve led many trips so I promise this doesn’t happen often and I am genuinely able to do my job properly

Surely posting this weirdly chaotic-sounding description about a very identifiable school trip including destination on a parenting website and having it seen by a school parent is the part that will make you look incompetent? I'd want to get it deleted if I were you.

Just get there a few minutes early, get the ipad and you will probably remember anything else when you are back in the environment.

This is my plan. I’m a lot calmer now. Just got a little overwhelmed for a few minutes earlier but honestly a lot calmer now.

It's good you're feeling calmer. You can almost see it in your writing. I agree I would get this removed. It's really identifying

GinAndTonicWithCake · 18/05/2023 23:26

Not sure why I even got overwhelmed as I’ve done many trips before and it’s always gone really well.

Why all the fuss and multiple mentions of the apparently unattainable ipad when you have keys and alarm codes so can easily pop to your office and get it? You're there an hour and a half before the kids even arrive. Chill out!

Is it the first one abroad since covid/ brexit? I imagine that might affect you.

Our first time going abroad as a school.

Chill. Planning is good, but shit always happens. There’s no such thing as perfect.

You are having normal last minute anxiety. You’ll be fine when you get going.

Have a great trip, and if you get a moment of headspace think about how to work on easing up on yourself.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/05/2023 23:47

Go to sleep!

LaPerduta · 18/05/2023 23:49

Jeez. Calm down and breathe.

(Also: "I've forgot"??)

Murdoch1949 · 19/05/2023 01:51

I'd ring the caretaker and beg a favour of letting you into school early, just to put your mind at rest for the trip.

Azandme · 19/05/2023 06:08

First overseas trip? That explains the anxiety! It'll be fine.

Hopefully everything went well, you got the ipad, and you are now on your way.

Have a great time.

All the mentions of ‘I’ve double checked everything I have here at home and can’t think of anything else I’ve forgot besides my IPad’ are giving me double vision 😵‍💫

Hope you’re all on the coach!

GinAndTonicWithCake · 19/05/2023 09:54

We all made it on the coach and left school this morning a few minutes after 5am. I didn’t get my IPad but my colleagues all have their IPads and I have my phone so we are all ok and looking forward to Denmark

Yes agree it needs deleting. Must be identifiable.
