and we were told we'd stop the shit flowing into rivers and the sea by allowing the Tories to privatise the water monopoly.

And so we shouldn't be being asked to PAY AGAIN.

We paid the bigger bills, paid for the bonuses and share dividends and obscene executive salaries. We paid the salaries of OFFWAT. They still kept tipping shit into rivers and now they say we have pay again for the clean up they didn't do?
They can fuck off.

50 billion in dividends. That’s a lot of money. How were dividends ever paid when a totally inadequate service was being offered? Corrupt system.
Nice high wages for those at the top too. Whilst showing utter contempt for the environment and the public.
Feargal has done a great job here, he is angry and very articulate. We are generally not angry enough.

Protesting is discouraged in the South West in case the tourists get upset that their children are swimming in shit.

Looking at you Lyme Regis!!!!

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/05/2023 11:00

We’re directly affected by this at the moment as the sea front has been taken over by tanker lorries, literally transporting shit to treatment plants, because the infrastructure collapsed. Meanwhile our MP, who doesn’t live in the area, toed the party line and is conspicuous by his absence in challenging the water company and standing with the residents of his constituency.

callingeveryone · 19/05/2023 11:21

Totally agree. They have basically asset stripped and now want us to pay more.

callingeveryone · 19/05/2023 11:22

And this is what happens when essential services are privatised. It was all inevitable.

SisterWivesrus · 19/05/2023 11:23

True.

He was also right when he said teenage kicks are so hard to beat.

Sloth66 · 19/05/2023 11:26

There’s a list of 265 MPs who voted in favour of allowing raw sewage to continue to be dumped in the river and ocean

all Conservative, many in coastal areas. Voting against their constituents in favour of maintaining big business profits. Are they shareholders?

and no doubt said MP will be re elected due to the propensity of some constituencies to vote for a nematode worm as long as it has a Blue Rosette.

They are taking the p*ss. No utilities should be in private hands. Throw in health/social care and transport to that list
I don't think any of our politicians are brave enough to attempt to re-nationalise them. They're too afraid of spooking the market and upsetting their donors.
It's completely disgusting that they can do this but I don't think that anything will happen. The regulators seem completely toothless.

Susan2 · 19/05/2023 11:55

All those 'smart' deals with banks such as McQuarrie took billions out of the water industry.
They, should be identified loudly clearly then sued. Protests against them more useful than Stop Oil crowd.

No they just have directorships (or are looking for them) with companies that are shareholders.

Though they may want to be head of Water UK.

YANBU. A good heart these days IS hard to find. Especially in the Tory party.

😁😁

To be fair, I’ve always believed he was right about cousin Kevin!

Here's a list of all the Tory MPs that voted to allow raw sewage discharges to our rivers and seas to continue - vote was in January 2023.
