To think this will free up my time?

I currently work 39 hours a week in a pretty much 9-5 role and as part of my future plan I’m looking at what I can do to make finances (and time!) work when I return to work after mat leave

I have recently qualified in something I could take forward as a bit of work on the side. It’s niche/consultancy of sort, there is a market for it and would probably bring in around £800-1000 every 6 weeks before tax. I would only have to work probably 7-8 hours a week for this. The work is flexible and I’d be working to my own schedule.

WIBU to think I could drop my hours to part time maybe 3 days a week, and also do a day per week for my own business? It would be 4 days work a week so I would be gaining a day off, and if my calculations are right (I’ve taken tax and insurance into account) I would be about £300 better off each month for doing this vs just my day job.

I don’t know if I am underestimating the commitment of having a side hustle alongside my day job though.

YABU - that will be too much work
YANBU - why wouldn’t you?

Could you afford to live on 3 days a week wages if the side hustle didn't work out for whatever reason??

(P.s. I went back to work only 3 days a week 2 weeks ago - I love that I get to spend so much time with my buba still!!)

Will your clients contact you by phone? Either new clients or existing ones who want to talk about your work? You’d struggle to get them only to contact you one day a week.

don’t under estimate the overheads of running a business - you’ll need time to invoice clients, chase payment, reconcile accounts, respond to new sales enquiries, write press releases/social media posts to let people know you exist.

I did it, but it was a lot harder than expected.

As pp, don't underestimate the admin involved in setting up and running a business. There'll be social media to do, calls and emails to answer, the actual delivery of the service, the invoicing, tax return etc.

What childcare will you have in place when doing your side hustle? It won't be fai

Posted too soon. It won't be fair on your or baby if you're trying to shoehorn it in.
If you have a DH will he understand you're working and you're boundaries when on the side hustle, or will he see it as family time, you need to be explicit here.
If you want to make it work you'll need a solid plan.
