AIBU to think people in Northern Ireland are too apathetic and the consequences will be a strong DUP win today at the ballet boxes?

So many of our friends have said they are not voting today because it is only for local council elections. Many say our councils are not powerful enough to make a difference.

My thoughts are that surely we need to send a message to the DUP to get the fuck back to work!

Ps. There's 462 seats contested but only 807 candidates. Are many seats uncontested?

It’s hard not to be apathetic with NI sometimes! Change will come, even if it feels too many people don’t have the appetite for it but sometimes it feels too far off.
NI has been used as a political pawn for the UK and brexit for years now, constantly left without a government and Westminster not stepping in.
The constant DUP/SF bullshit gets exhausting but equally with the way stormont is set up neutral parties like alliance can only achieve very little.

UTV lol . U mean the abhorrent TUV of course. And to answer a previous poster, no mumsnet is not at all representative of NI voters unfortunately. The Greens will probably poll abysmally. All Green and Orange votes here and not green in the environmental sense.

had a good laugh at the misspelling of ‘ballet box’ and the first post underneath referring to the turnout 🤣
