Just been reading a closed thread of complaints about the above. I wanted to make a comment in response to someone who said that the drivers get paid a pittance and don’t have time to deliver correctly.
My local driver regularly sits outside my house at the end of a tiny cul de sac and leaves her deisel engine running while having long conversations with people who live in my road. Today she left her engine running for approximately 20 minutes.
I decided it was about time I confronted the issue, having looked it up and discovered that it is illegal to leave your engine idling for no obvious reason under the Road Traffic Act section 42.
I am an asthma sufferer and the lady who lives opposite has COPD. Apart from environmental concerns and the fumes I could smell in my back garden, this was reason enough.
I politely asked if she would switch off her engine if she had to converse for more that 19 minutes with someone. She replied that she could leave it in if she wanted. I told her it was illegal and mentioned the health condition of my neighbour. She said she (my neighbour) had never complained. I said that she doesn’t have the knowledge and doesn’t like to anyway. She then said that it wasn’t illegal, she knows this because her has a close relative (can’t remember which) who is a policeman. I asked her if she wanted me to show her on my iPad. She said again that it was up to her how long she left her engine running and she could do what she liked.
i asked for company number so that zip could complain. She gave me her phone number and said I could only call her as she was in charge of this area. She was correct in that there is no customer phone line for anyone who isn’t sending or receiving a parcel and therefore has no tracking number.
I am 70 years old and found her rudeness and stubborn refusal to acknowledge the concerns and rights of a customer (she has delivered to me often) unbelievable. As far as Evri drivers being too busy to do a good job is concerned, they obviously are not too busy as they have loads of time to stand around chatting.
I called the local council. They said the police are responsible for enforcing the Road Traffic Act, so I have made a complaint to the police. Unfortunately I did not get her plate number. They gave me an incident number and said to call again with her plate number if she does it again.
The point of complaining (to answer another comment on the previous thread) is that there are laws in existence to both protect the environment and ourselves, and if we all sit back and ignore things like this then what is the point of these laws. They were made in order to initiate change, so we should make use of them.
