How can they have sold 973?

OP posts:
Iyiyiiii · 18/05/2023 16:00

probably priced high as they might be out of stock, they're not selling at that price

GrumpyPanda · 18/05/2023 16:01

How can they have sold 973?

Well that would support your argument - they must have sold to themselves.

Goodfuckingriddance · 18/05/2023 16:01

Not sure about money laundering possibly a scam but not money laundering.

SeasonFinale · 18/05/2023 16:02

They have put in a nonsense prive because as you can see they are selling a variety of items at different prices. It's an online furniture shop

purplecorkheart · 18/05/2023 16:03

I wonder are they just using ebay for advertising and want people to either email them or google their firm and buy directly from them so they don't have to pay the ebay fee.

Tafaa · 18/05/2023 16:03

Maybe they just change the price when they have no stock?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 18/05/2023 16:04

lol, they are out of stock so bmped up the price, all it does is make buyers look at their other items.

Merryoldgoat · 18/05/2023 16:06

Once you choose options it’s more sensible. It’s just a placeholder

HanSB · 18/05/2023 16:11

If you look at their sales, the prices are much lower. My guess is that it is out of stock and rather the hassle of removing the listing, they have just put a price that no one would purchase it at

Greentree1 · 18/05/2023 16:18

This may be a genuine mistake, if you click on the seller, most of their furniture seems to be a few hundred a very similar looking bed £199.99.

But it's quite common on ebay to see the exact same item at 10 or 100 times the true price, they don't need to sell many to make a big profit, theirs always an idiot somewhere.

SussexSeaGal · 18/05/2023 16:31

They do it because they are out of stock, and they don't want to actually remove the product from sale because they lose the reviews and quantity sold. It's also much more easier to up the price than remove the advert and then redo it.

discan · 18/05/2023 16:34

They are juts drop shippers who have raised the price to keep their listing active while stock is unavailable.

I agree. With keeping it's listing "live", it will continue to appear in search results, etc. If they removed it, they'd lose the history/rankings and would have to start again when they re-listed it.

FarmGirl78 · 18/05/2023 16:58

They've sold 973 at a lower price, but when it's out of stock its cheaper with eBay fees (or something) for them to just amend the price to one where no-one will buy it. It doesn't mean they've sold them all at that price.

Harringtonperle · 18/05/2023 17:02

It's not beyond the realms of possibility but their accountant would have to be an absolute moron. I agree more likely amended the price as they have no stock

crabbyoldappletree · 18/05/2023 17:50

Out of stock would be my guess. People then put a watch on it, and think they have a bargain when it's back in stock at a hugely reduced price!

FelicityFlops · 18/05/2023 18:02

Money laundering is, amongst other things, taking money that was obtained illegally and putting it into a vehicle that makes it appear legitimate.
I am not sure how selling beds fits, unless they were stolen.

JaneBeyre · 18/05/2023 18:10

Odd. I know someone who had a second hand clothing business. She let in a a business partner from next door

It was more or less taken over by bikies (this is in australia) who now use the online shop to launder money by "selling" second hand designer bags etc.

Hellocatshome · 18/05/2023 18:14

Placeholder. Money laundering is a lot more subtle than this otherwise they would get caught all the time.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 18/05/2023 18:25

A lot of sellers do this when the item is out of stock and they wish to keep the listing active. They reduce the price when it returns in stock as they know it will not sell while at the inflated price.

These days Ebay asks business accounts to provide identity and bank details to verify an account.

They are an ebay top rated seller and if you check their other items for sale they are more reasonably priced.

Dibbydoos · 18/05/2023 18:58

Yes quite possibly, OP.

WTF. EBay should be watching for this sort of stiff.

BTW word of warning don't use ebay podtal contractor. They stole my daughter £600 phone and gave her just £25 compensation. Her error for not adding extra insurance but she said it didn't prompt her...

Ebay is not a place I use anymore...

It's really not money laundering, it's just a place holder for the listing.

LilQueenie · 18/05/2023 20:19

its out of stock. been happening this way since ebay began. very common yet annoying

FixTheBone · 18/05/2023 20:30
