King Charles and Camilla is a true love story?

sillyonehetpes · 18/05/2023 12:52

From what I've read Charles was forced to marry Dianna despite wanting to be with Camilla.

After all these years they are together - so they truly loved each other?

A true love story would have been if he told them to piss off and went with his heart.

What actually happened was/is a car crash (excuse the tasteless pun)

He probably couldn't? He was forced to marry Dianna for the country? Look at Harold - divorcee and drama Queen.

Gossiping about a (non) affair of a dead woman.
classy.

A remarkably privileged and fucked-up UC man, the product of a toxic combination of poor parenting, poor education and indulgence, had an understanding with a woman of his own set who ultimately chose to marry someone else, and then married unwisely a very much younger woman from an equally screwed-up background, but who expressed it very differently.

I think this is probably the best summary of Charles and Diana’s marriage ever 🤣🤣

When colossal fuck ups happens I think the best thing that can follow is the next generation do better. William and Harry are faithful men (the William stuff is utterly unsubstantiated bollocks that imploded by a drunken tweet from an attention seeking weirdo) and they very clearly love their wives. Can’t ask for much more.

I know nothing about Camilla’s children but I hope they did better than their parents too.

They live in separate countries. I’m not sure if that’s true love.

Which countries?

@sillyonehetpes you really don’t think, if he’d been 100% committed to Camilla in the 70’s, and had any level of persuasive intelligence, he couldn’t have put forth an argument to support his decision?

It’s quite clear now that he just couldn’t make his mind up.

Pemba · 18/05/2023 13:32

Plus I thought she didn't even want to marry him at the time? Being in love with Andrew Parker Bowles and not wanting the restrictions of the Royal lifestyle.

@SaladRooney yes! That’s it. A very good synopsis.

Well, I'm sure the facts, to the extent that we know them, could be marshalled more dramatically/romantically, but there doesn't seem to be any real evidence that Charles was 'forbidden' from marrying Camilla, who simply preferred someone else at the time.

And all the dismay about 'cheating' in the sense of infidelity is a bit lower-middle-class for these people, for whom it was pretty much a fact of life, like weekend house parties and having staff -- Andrew P-B shagged his way around his set, including, one gathers, several of Camilla's friends, and after they divorced, he remarried almost immediately to someone who had essentially been his longterm partner for years (they attended Charles and Camilla's wedding together). Diana, with her Barbara Cartland tastes in romantic reading, was probably the anomaly in that set, though of course she was herself the product of a dysfunctional marriage, a messy divorce, and a (from her POV) disastrous remarriage.

Harold 🙄do you mean Harry? Cos his real name is Henry.

Of course he could - he chose to stay in the royal family and abide by their archaic rules. Heirs can abdicate their right to the throne, and if he had done this and quietly went off and lived his life that would have been the true love story of sacrifice.

The damage caused was a result of wanting it all, using people and not giving a shit who got hurt along the way.

EdithWeston · 18/05/2023 13:50

No, not in the slightest.

Charles has several girlfriends and more than one mistress in the run up to his marriage, and there was no external sign at the time that either of the main mistresses was an enduring love interest.

Also Camilla really, really wanted to marry AP-B. And it was all complicated because he had been dating Princess Anne.

The idea of enduring life-long thwarted lovers is later reasoning. Using the opportunity given by Diana ("three of us in the marriage" - part of the war of the Waleses), it was part of the way that Camilla was made acceptable to the public.

Probably Harold as in Willy and Harold. It's the nickname he chose to make public himself in his book

Exactly. Several dollops of Disney sentiment had to be fed to the public over a number of years to make the prospect of Camilla as future queen palatable to the majority.

Fiddlededeefiddlededoh · 18/05/2023 13:54

I don’t think Disney are going to be after the rights any time soon but I do remember thinking it was really lovely on their wedding day.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 18/05/2023 13:54

Well he wished he was her tampon - if that's what you call love - then yes a true love story 😆

As for William marrying for love - does that mean he fell out of 'true love' when he had his mistress? #PrinceOfPegging

CabbagePatchDole · 18/05/2023 14:01

Whatever love means...

True love of power story perhaps?

Her father had to force Charles to get engaged to her. Just as he had forced her first husband to marry her by placing a marriage announcement in The Times. Doesn't sound like true love to me.

Re: Kanga, there's a Doc online somewhere that is rather disturbing in that she became a loose cannon for the Royals, met with an accident and tragically died at only 49 years old. I hadn't realised she was that young.

She came across as being quite likeable and fun. She 'rang' the Queen from a phone box and was admitted to a clinic a short time afterwards. The doc described how she was picked up by a 'mysterious black car' after placing a call through to the palace...

She seemingly doesn't even want those restrictions now, which is why they live separately. I do understand that btw. I wouldn't want to live with him either.

That said, I do think they love each other.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 18/05/2023 14:12

Camilla got exactly what she wanted really. Children that were wealthy but not encumbered with the restrictions of being royal and a man that's happy to be married to her but let her live in her own property to do as she pleases when not required for duties.

Sounds like a cracking plan. Shame there's so much heartache and turmoil for pretty much everyone else involved in it though!

Ah, that completely passed me by! Tbh the only thing I read about from his book was using his mother's face cream on his frozen dick.
